1 Years Preventive Maintenance

FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION:
The water cooled ACS AC drive is equipped with a deionizer vessel for the drive internal cooling
water (or water/glycol mixture). This deionizer is a combination of Glassfibre Reinforced epoxy
wound outer shell with a Polyethylene inner tank (GRP-vessel) filled with mixed-bed ion exchanger
resin (mixture of cation and anion resins).
The deionizer vessel is located in the cooling system treatment circuit. The factory setting for the
treatment circuit flow is 5 liters/min.

REASONS FOR THE CHANGE:

1.1 The nominal lifetime is more than 2 years. The lifetime of deionizer depends on the
amount and the quality of the used makeup water for the cooling circuit, but also
component failures in a drive main circuit can shorten the expected lifetime. ABB
recommend replacing of deionizer if conductivity alarm level is reached.

THE RESULTING EFFECT:

If the deionizer is too weak:
1. Cooling water actual conductivity value can
not be anymore maintained below 0.3
µS/cm.
2. Drive generates an alarm message after
the water conductivity alarm level 0.5
µS/cm is reached, but the drive operation
will continue.
3. The dissipation power of the ACS1000
switchboard gets higher according to the
conductivity actual value.
4. If the water conductivity trip level 0.7 µS/cm
is reached the drive operation will trip.
