1 Preventive Maintenance

FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION:
The water cooled MV AC drive is equipped with a micro filter for the drive internal cooling water (or
water/glycol mixture). This filter is a combination of stringwound water filter cartridge with a plastic
filter housing.

The micro filter is located in the cooling system treatment circuit. The factory setting for the treatment
circuit flow is 5 liters/min.

REASONS FOR THE CHANGE:

The lifetime of micro filter depends on the amount and the quality of the used makeup water for the
cooling circuit, but also component failures in a drive main circuit can shorten the expected lifetime.
The nominal lifetime for the filter cartridge is more than 2 years, so the recommendation is to change
it every time the ion exchanger vessel is changed.

THE RESULTING EFFECT:

If the cooling water micro filter is clogged:
1. The treatment circuit water circulation is reduced => flow through the ion exchanger is
getting smaller => cooling water actual conductivity value cannot be anymore maintained
below 0.3 µS/cm.
2. Drive generates an alarm message after the water conductivity alarm level 0.5 µS/cm is
reached, but the drive operation is not stopped.
3. The dissipation power of the ACS1000 switchboard gets higher according to the
conductivity actual value.
4. If the water conductivity trip level 0.7 µS/cm is reached the drive will trip.

WHERE USED:
All MV ACS water cooled converters.
