1- A 0.1 cm diameter pipe is inserted into a liquid with specific gravity 0f 0.8 and it is observed that
liquid rises 0.3 cm in the tale with contact angle of 30°, determine surface tension of the liquid. (Water
density is 1000 kg/m3)

2-To measure water pressure in a pipe, following measuring device (Figure 1) is connected to the pipe.
Calculate the absolute water pressure in the pipe. Specific gravity of liquid A and B are 12 and 6
respectively. h1=8 cm, h2=16 cm, h3=10 cm, h4=20 cm, and water density is 1000 kg/m3.

3-Water is being pumped from a lower reservoir to a higher reservoir at 50 meters higher elevation. The
motor of the pump consumes 12.43 kW electricity with motor efficiency of 0.9. If the mechanical
efficiency of the pump is 84% and energy loss is 0.4 kW, Determine the flow rate of water.

4- A quarter of cylindrical gate of length 8 m and radius of 2 m is hinged its upper edge A (see Figure 2).
The gate controls flow of liquid with the density of 1100 kg/m 3.The gate is pressed by force F B at point B.
Calculate the magnitude and direction of hydrostatic force acting on the surface of the gate. Determine the
force FB needed to keep the gate closed.
