Dissection Safety and Precaution


1. Wear surgical mask, protective gloves, laboratory gown and protective goggles before
dissection.
2. Wash your hand before and after dissection.
3. All dissecting tools should be considered dangerous. Handle with extremely
care/caution.
4. Always cut away from you, never toward to yourself or others.
5. Do not use excessive force when working with sharp instruments.
6. Notify your teacher immediately if you are cut.
7. Dissection specimens should be properly mounted in the dissection pan before
cutting.
8. Plenty of soap and water should be used after all dissection work.
9. Adequate time should be provided for the proper cleanup of materials.
10. After dissection, clean the specimen and put it in a jar for preservation.
11. Proper clean-up and disposal of dissected materials is critical. Dispose your used
gloves, paper towels in a trash bag.
