KAJIAN EKSISTENSI PENDIDIKAN KEJURUAN MENURUT PERSEPSI

SISWA JURUSAN TEKNIK MESIN SMK DI KOTA PADANG

Abstract

This study aimed to determine perceptions of vocational students in


the city of Padang on vocational education and their reasons in
choosing to enter SMK. This study covered aspects of the
implementation learning process in SMK as perceived by students
in relation to their role and function. The type of research is
descriptive qualitative. The selection of informants in this study
used purposive sampling as many as 50 people with research
subjects are student of class XI of Mechanical Engineering. Data
collection techniques used observation, open interviews and closed
interviews, as well as documentation. The results showed that
students who attend school in public SMK in Padang generally
choose vocational education as the main option. The reason for
choosing SMK is to acquire skills, want to work right after school
graduation, and encouragement of the family. In addition,
according to the students, the learning processes in SMK are more
practical than theoretical.

A. Pendahuluan

Pemerintah dalam beberapa tahun terakhir giat melakukan ekspansi

program pendidikan keterampilan pada jenjang pendidikan menengah terutama

Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan (SMK). Tidak seperti halnya Sekolah Menengah

Atas (SMA) yang hanya dibekali teori dan lebih menekankan pada aspek
