Preparations
1.Identify someone from an ethnic group different from your
own.
2.Ask them to tell you about their culture especially the beliefs
and practices about health for themselves and their family.
3.Identify your beliefs about health and the health practices
and those of your own family.
4.Use the recommended readings related to health and culture
to inform your discussions.
Presentation
1.Compare and contrast your health beliefs and practices with
those from a culture different from your own?
2.Discuss the differences in health and health practices and
how these contribute to your understanding of health and
culture.
3.Discuss why this might be important for a nurse to know.
Presentation time
• Develop a 15-minute presentation comparing and contrasting these
two cultures

• DUE DATE: week 10 to 14 presentations.

Development of presentation
o Decide on the method you will use to present your findings to the
audience
o Prepare an introduction of the outline of the key points you will
present and the method of presentation you will use.
o Develop a visual aid to compare and contrast the cultural findings
o Develop notes or cue cards if you need these to support your
presentation
o Provide the marker with a list of the references that you have used
to develop your knowledge reflected in your presentation.
o Be prepared to answer questions from the audience.
Guidelines for the 15-minute presentation to
explain your topic:
oThe presentation is to be completed in English.
oPrepare and present the presentation including
 An introduction and outline of the cultures
 Overview of main findings
 Discussion of key differences
 Briefly outline why this knowledge is important
 Presentation
oBe sure to engage the audience when presenting by :
 Make eye contact with the audience
 Holding the interest of the audience by demonstrating
knowledge that supports your presentation.
 Use visual aid to assist audience to understand
 Be prepared to respond to questions from audience.
oThe presentation is to be completed in 15 minutes.
oYou will have 5 minutes between presentations for
questions and discussion.
