THERE IS – THERE ARE

We use there is and there are when we first refer to the existence or
presence of someone or something.

EXAMPLE:
1. There is an apple in my fridge. (singular)
2. There are some bananas in my fridge. (plural)
3. There is an egg in my fridge. (singular)
4. There are lots of carrots in my fridge. (plural)

THERE IS: We use “there is” for singular things or people.


EXAMPLE:
There is a person in the class.
There is an apple on the table.
There is a book on my bed.

There are: We use “there are” for plural things or people.


EXAMPLE:
There are some oranges in my fridge.
There are four books on my bed.
There are two dogs in the house.
