Republic Act 8293, section 176 states that: No copyright shall subsist in any work
of the Government of the Philippines. However, prior approval of the government agency

from their respective copyright owners. The authors do not represent nor claim ownership
over them.
I. Learning Competency
Subtasks:
• Discuss the drivers installation procedure;
• Carry out installation using portable bootable device; and
• Recognize the use of software user guide and the software license agreement.
Time Allotment: 3 hours
Installation
It refers to the configuration of a software or hardware with a view to making it usable with
the computer. A soft or digital copy of the piece of software (program) is needed to install it. There
are different processes of installing a piece of software (program). Because the process varies for
each program and each computer, programs (including operating systems) often come with an
installer, a specialized program responsible for doing whatever is needed for the installation.
Boot Disk
It is a removable digital data storage medium from which a computer can load and run
(boot) an operating system or utility program. The computer must have a built-in program which
will load and execute a program from a boot disk meeting certain standard.
Bootable USB Flash Drive - is an external hard drive that can be used to boot a Desktop computer
or a laptop.
OPERATING SYSTEM
An operating system is a software that provide interface between the user and the
hardware. The computer cannot perform any task without operating system. The operating
system control and manage the operation of computer hardware.
1. Microsoft Windows remains the most popular operating system for home and office
computers. Its latest versions, including Windows 10, are also used on some tablets, and
the OS is used on some web and number crunching server computers as well. Computers
from a wide variety of manufacturers can use Windows.
2. MacOS It is previously Mac OS X, then OS X is a series of graphical operating systems
developed and marketed by Apple Inc. since 2001. It is the primary operating system for
Apple's Mac family of computers.
3. The Unix computer operating system has been in use for more than three decades.
Originally it rose from the ashes of a failed attempt in the early 1960s to develop a reliable
timesharing operating system. A few survivors from Bell Labs did not give up and developed
a system that provides a work environment described as "of unusual simplicity, power, and
elegance."
4. iOS (formerly iPhone OS) is a mobile operating system created and developed by Apple Inc.
exclusively for its hardware. It is the operating system that powers many of the company's
mobile devices, including the iPhone and iPod Touch and it also powered the iPad until the
introduction of iPadOS in 2019. It is the world's second-most widely installed mobile
operating system, after Android.
5. Android is a mobile operating system based on a modified version of the Linux kernel and
other open-source software, designed primarily for touchscreen mobile devices such as
smartphones and tablets. Android is developed by a consortium of developers known as the
Open Handset Alliance and commercially sponsored by Google.
HOW TO INSTALL OPERATING SYSTEM (OS) USING PORTABLE BOOTABLE DISK (USB
Flash Disk) for Windows 7
PROCEDURE:
5. Change the BIOS boot order so the USB will be the first device option in the boot
sequence.
The BIOS is rarely set up this way by default.
6. Save the change and then exit the BIOS Setup by Pressing the “F10”.
7. The computer will restart using the new settings, booting from your USB drive.
8. Stay alert! Depending on your BIOS, you may be prompted with a message “Press any key
to boot from external device” and you will only have a few seconds to respond.
Note: Remember to remove your USB bootable device as the computer Restart.
PROCEDURE:
5. Right click the device and then click Update Driver Software.
This will open the “Update Driver Software” dialog box.
When you provide the path, Windows will load and initialize the drivers immediately. There is no
need to restart the system. You are already finished!
Note: Before you conduct the updating of the driver software, make
sure to read and understand the terms and conditions in accordance
with the software utilization guide and End-User License Agreement
(EULA)

Directions: With the supervision of the teacher and parent-teacher at home, you will perform the
given activity.
1. Prepare the Portable Bootable USB Flash Drive for the installation purposes.

VI. Assessment:
Directions: Write TRUE if the statement is correct and FALSE if it is incorrect. Write your
answers on the activity notebook. (10pts)
1. Device drivers should be updated when you have reinstalled the operating system
using either CD, DVD, or a USB drive or when you are facing any issues like Wi-Fi or
other network issues, video (GPU) issues, or audio (sound) issues.
2. Downloading and installing device drivers or software from unknown sources may work
correctly and may not cause your PC to crash or boot into the operating system.
3. When you need to install a device driver completely, it is recommended to use the device's
uninstaller program.
4. Updating device drivers is also a great troubleshooting step when the device is not
functioning properly or generating an error, like a Device Manager error code.
5. Some hardware devices may be listed as an "Unknown Device" in Windows
Device Manager if the device driver is not available or installed on the PC.
6. A blue exclamation mark in Device Manager indicates that Windows has detected a
problem with the device.
7. Most device manager errors can be resolved by uninstalling and/or installing the
latest device driver.
8. A yellow X next to a device in Windows Device Manager indicates that the device is either
disabled or Microsoft Windows is unable to communicate with the device due to a corrupt
or deleted device driver file.
9. You will get an email notifications when there are new or updated device drivers for a
certain brand of the product that you are interested in through Support Notifications.
10. You can use the download manager to create an exact copy of your device driver files,
called an ISO image. The ISO image can be used to create a CD or DVD or external USB
drive that will contain all the downloaded device driver installation files.
