TOPIC 2: Rood’s Approach

Neuro & Rood Technique

The objectives that the approach or technique that they want to navigate with the patient

is to develop from primitive reflexes through proper sensory stimuli of the pt—to the appropriate

sensory receptors in normal sequential developmental pattern to improve motor performance. In

addition, their objective per se is to normalize the tone of the muscles of the patient from which

are affected, also, to develop the seqeuence called “ontogenic developmental sequence” on the

patient. Further in the matter, they also want to improve the purposeful movement and repetition

and practice of the patient and it is to apply the approach developed by Margaret Rood.

So as Dr. Dee entails how and what to do on the technique they use some heating

modalities in order to work w the spasticity of the patient. Furthermore, She applied some pressure

on specific area on the affected side or the technique called light joint compression in order to be

able to relax or inhibit the muscle firing thus creates relaxation to the muscle of the patient. In

summarization, the techniques were used by Dr. Dee on the video were the discussed techniques

such as proprioceptive Facilitatory techniques; Heavy joint compression, Stretch, intrinsic stretch,

secondary ending stretch, stretch pressure, resistance, tapping, vestibular stimulation,

inversion, therapeutic vibration, osteopressure. But mostly she does and demonstrated in the

video where therapeutic vibration, joint compression, tapping on the patient.

They want to improve the muscle tone of the patient for she is spastic, thus, having a hard

time in movement. In addition they want to improve the LE specifically the flexors of the foot of

the patient and on UE they want to strengthen and improve the extensors of the patient.
