I have had the pleasure of working with Immy as her director, but also as a performer.

Within
Bridport Musical Theatre Company – an adult amateur dramatics group she joined in February 2022–
Immy was one of the youngest within the cast of ‘Anything Goes’, but showed a professionalism,
passion and talent of an extremely experienced and well-disciplined performer. This was
demonstrated further when, following two members having to pull out for personal and health
reasons, Immy was asked to step into the role of one of ‘Reno’s Angels’, which involved multiple
complex dance breaks demonstrating her jazz, tap and musical theatre ability. We also worked
together on the soprano harmonies for the show, a task that developed her performance ability, but
also extended her range and confidence in her abilities.
However, my main interaction with Immy within performance has been through Bridport Young
Performers, a company in which I have been the director for the last two years. Within ‘Seussical’,
Immy was a part of the ensemble, and was one of the most supportive, reliable and captivating
performers onstage. This year, within ‘Oliver!’, Immy played the role of Widow Corney, which
enabled her to showcase her soprano singing, but also experiment with playing a comedic role,
which differed from the style I have often seen her perform in. Her ability to listen to and respond to
feedback, support other less confident performers, and stage presence were undeniable, and
enabled her to be one of the most memorable and complimented performers within the production.
Alongside this, Immy undertook the roles of Rehearsal Secretary and Fundraising Officer, which
involved her monitoring payment of subs in rehearsals and taking registers, as well as organising
events to support our production. Her work as Fundraising Officer was particularly notable, having
led a team of young people to put on monthly fundraisers, one of which raised £1000 for the
company. The fact she has been able to show commitment like this alongside performing within the
production and undertaking the final year of her college course is a testament to Immy’s
organisation, hard work and dedication to the company, and the profession of performing arts as a
whole.
