STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

“You can have data without information, but you cannot have information without data.”
This is a famous quote by Daniel Keys Moran, a computer programmer and science fiction
author. Every business needs information to make better decisions in order to run efficiently.
This ensures sustainability and keeps the business profitable. In our daily lives, information
helps us to make better discissions. Humans learn constantly and it is out ability to convert
data to information that makes us so successful among other species on earth.
I completed my Bachelor of Science in 2016 from the University of Mines and Technology
(UMaT), Ghana. Those were four amazing years of my academic life where I experienced
some of the most challenging and memorable times. I enjoyed studying subjects such as
applied electricity, probability and statistics, numerical methods, differential and integral
calculus and differential equations.
In second year at the university, after studying Statistics a little further, I came to really
appreciate how information we gather from data can have profound influence on the future.
This was strengthened when the class made a field trip to Gold Fields, a mining firm in Ghana,
where I saw the business intelligence team use data science techniques to constantly improve
on the various processes of the company. This opened my eye to a whole new side of
Information Technology; Data Science and Analytics.
During my final year at the university, I was asked by a lecturer to build a hostel management
system for her to use to manage the hostel she’s in charge of. I saw this as an opportunity to
build a tool which can be used to gather data like student’s usage of the hostel’s resources,
for information generation. The information, such as the way students use electricity, could
help in making a discission as to what kind of plant to purchase as a back up for the hostel.
Unfortunately, this system was not well received by the hostel prefects and was discontinued.

Aspirations:
I look forward to building my career in Data Analytics that will be intellectually challenging
but rewarding, and provide great opportunities in the long run. I am passionate, intellectually
capable, and prepared to set out on this challenging path. I wish to make significant
contributions to the current research projects in this field by working on innovative projects
and discovering new concepts in the field that can be used to improve business performance
and profitability.
Universities Information:
The Northeastern University in Canada has consistently been my desired university since I
began searching for my schooling abroad. Canada is known for its remarkable mechanical
turn of events and predominant exploration in the field of Data Science. The Northeastern
University has created education programs and forged research and innovation partnerships
in locations with unique opportunities to learn and make an impact. This makes the university
an ideal place for professional growth, especially in the technology field.
