STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

As a youngster, before entering into the world of yearning, I always wondered about a plethora of
developments around me. Despite the fact that I initiated my journey as a mechanical student in
(year), my ultimate interest was caught by the fascinating possibilities of data. Some general incidents
that tickled my curiosity were how Amazon prime or Netflix know about my taste in movies? How
does Google predict the traffic on the way? This particular prospect triggered in me a curiosity to
further my knowledge about data and its analytics. As I grew older and wiser, I realized that in the
modern era where technology and humans work together effectively, every learning field gets this
bonus of evolving technology, which improvises its wisdom. With the advancement in computational
capabilities, I take the leeway to state that Data is now the new digital wealth. As an inquisitive
student throughout my academics, I aspire to be a part of the field that transforms unceasingly every
day. At this juncture in life, I believe pursuing a master's degree under the tutelage of an elite
international environment would be an ideal path for my future endeavors.
My natural aptitude in mathematics, analytical ability, and capacity for meticulous work has always
given me the strength to convert my passion into a profession. Having discovered my interest in data
science, it wasn't easy to manage my undergrad studies while parallelly upgrading myself on the
technical developments. During the process, I was often questioned about my decision to move ahead
in a different field. However, I never let external opinions affect my aspirations and prepared myself
for this newly emerging field and invested my undergrad years in learning programming languages
like, C, C++, Python. Along with this, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning,
Computer Vision, and Natural language processing are some of the areas that caught my utmost
attention. Moreover, my desire to boost my knack for Algorithms, Database Systems and coding
ignited in me a thurst to travel an extra mile to achieve my career goals.
Data science involves making inferences from the tons of data available to devise solutions driving
growth in any organization. As I dig deeper into its concepts, it blew my mind, and at the first
interaction itself, I was fuelled to explore the field to the fullest. Data is the blueprint of the human
brain, and it empowers us to move in the right direction based on algorithms. Employing my
observations and expertise in the practical world, I completed multiple online certified courses
including Machine Learning, SQL, Statistics, and Data structures from various virtual platforms and
parallelly gained hands-on experience via undertaking a few projects. Likewise, I assisted my friend
in his project, "Breast Cancer Prediction”. Aimed to use Machine Learning concepts to predict Benign
or Malignant from the dataset collected from Kaggle website, we used Logistic Regression, Decision
Tree, and Random Forest Algorithms to build the ML models. Using this, we further were able to
achieve 93.7% as the highest accuracy with the model built on Random-forest algorithm in predicting
cancerous records. Carrying along my interest and with utmost confidence for my journey ahead,
reading journals, participating in tech events, seminars, workshops, and virtual learning sessions
became the avenues to suffice my thirst for knowledge. These extra efforts introduced me to the
newly emerging field of computers.
Besides academics, I was equally active in the co-curricular and extra-curricular activities as well.
From displaying my leadership abilities by heading the Infra Team of Daksh festival by conducting
several workshops on ___ and ____, and cultural events from different Universities across South
India, to representing my school and college in the Cricket competitions, I have enhanced myself in
other areas and all this extra participation has led me to boost up my interpersonal abilities even
further.
After observing my updated technical skills in software field during the placement round, officials
soon offered with an internship at one of the top IT firms of India- ‘Cognizant’. During my six-
months of internship, I was initially asked to complete my training on Core Java, Html, CSS, SQL,
Javascript, Spring Framework, and Spring Boot to build our project- SMART CITY GUIDE portal.
With the help of this project, anyone can know or find anything in the city like Hospitals, Schools,
Job openings, Tourist places, or any other place. We developed a website for just one city- Delhi,
wherein, while working on this project, I was able to enhance myself and learned the language- SQL,
which contains utmost significance in the Data Base Management System.
Marching ahead with the acquired acumen, my seniors and the company's officials were impressed
with my work ethics and offered me a full-time role as a Programmer Analyst Trainee after my
internship period. At present, I am a full-time employee in Cognizant, where my responsibilities
revolve around ____ and _____. During my initial joining as a Trainee, I completed my six weeks of
Automation Testing training, as Selenium is the core technology. Thereafter, we completed three
projects in this training based on Selenium in which two of them was on two websites and the
remaining was a Hackathon. Currently, after completing my training period, we are mapped into a
project where I am handling a Testing Engineer position.
Quoting Matshona Dhliwayo, "True wisdom is like an ocean; the deeper you go, the greater treasures
you'll find." The treasures I encountered during my quest to satiate the unquenchable thirst for
knowledge are coupled with my aspirations to exemplify myself as a leading Data Scientist in the
global world. I strongly believe that (name of course) at XYZ University will help me acquire both
technical and soft skills required to pursue a career in this industry. The presence of well-versed
teachers and their guidance makes me confident that I can make a conspicuous contribution to the
field of _________. I possess the intellectual ability and preparation to set out an exhilarating and
arduous post-graduate study path at your esteemed institution.
Furthermore, Prof. ______’s research on ________ also aligns well with my interest. Again, studying
with a group of diverse and motivated students will help me transition efficiently at a global level and
enhance my professional skills. I hope to complete this master's program as part of an exciting
professional journey as a data scientist. I believe that taking my professional exposure and research
completed to date through the rigors of an academic course in this domain is the most logical next
step in my career. If given the opportunity, I will surely live up to the expected university standards.
I look forward to undergoing two years of rigorous self-improvement, optimizing this once-in-a-
lifetime opportunity, and walk out as a learned individual who can provide meaningful innovations to
