What is Billiard?

The term “billiard” is derived from French, either from the word “billart”, one of the wooden
sticks, or “bille”, a ball. It is a game played on a rectangular table with a designated number
of small balls and a long stick called cue. The table and the cushioned rail bordering the
table are topped with a feltlike tight-fitting cloth. Moreover, billiard is played in both casual
and competitive settings. The goal of billiards is to score more points than your opponent.
The following are the equipment used in Billiard:
1. Cue stick
A cue stick is used to hit the ball. The length of the cue stick is around 55 inches,
however there is no fixed length as some cue sticks are around 58 inches.
2. Mechanical Bridge
A Mechanical Bridge is also called a rake and it is used sometimes as a supporting
instrument for the cue stick.
3. Billiard Chalk
A billiard Chalk is a rubbed on the tip of the cue stick before every shot, a player rubs
the tip with chalk to increase the friction between the tip and the ball in order to
increase the hitting efficiency.
4. Cue Ball
A Cue ball is the white ball which struck by the cue, which collides with the other balls
to achieve the object of the particular game. The red spot allows for a consistent
reference for eyesight and cue tip positioning.
5. Billiard Balls
Billiard balls are balls used in the game of billiards (which a game played by two
people on a table covered in soft cloth, in which a long stick is used to hit balls
against each other and into pockets around the table). It has two sets of ball which
includes the seven striped number balls and the seven solid colored number balls.
There is also a ball having number eight which called black eight ball.
6. Billiards Table
The billiards table is a six-pocket table, or a six-hole table. The pockets are four in
four corners and two pockets are in the middle of the two lengths of the table. The
table is rectangular in shape having a length of a 2.75m and breadth of 1. 37m.
