Being a global citizen means understanding and valuing diverse cultures, being aware of global
issues, and taking action to promote positive change in the world. In my opinion, Malala
Yousafzai is an excellent example of a global citizen. Despite facing many challenges, Malala
has continued to advocate for girls' education and women's rights, not only in her home country
of Pakistan but also around the world. She embodies the IB Learning of "Caring" by
demonstrating empathy towards others and taking action to help those in need. Her courage and
perseverance in the face of adversity also exemplify the IB Learning of "Risk-takers." Through
her activism, Malala has become an inspiration to many and has shown us the importance of
being informed, compassionate, and proactive global citizens.
In reflecting on my development as a global learner and citizen, I have come to appreciate the
importance of the IB Learner Profiles in shaping my growth. Through my academic, personal,
and extracurricular experiences, I have embodied the qualities of the "Inquirer" and
"Knowledgeable" Learner Profiles, as I have sought to explore diverse perspectives and
understand the interconnectedness of the world. Additionally, the "Thinker" and
"Communicator" Learner Profiles have helped me develop critical thinking skills and effective
communication strategies, which I have applied in various contexts, including community
service projects. As I continue to pursue my education and career goals, I envision myself
embodying the IB Learner Profiles as a responsible, open-minded, and reflective global citizen,
who seeks to make positive contributions to my community and the world at large.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that becoming globally competent is essential for students all
around the world. By developing the qualities of a global learner and citizen, students can gain a
deeper understanding of the world, develop critical thinking skills, and become better prepared
for their future academic, professional, and personal endeavors. Throughout this essay, I have
discussed the importance of the IB Learner Profiles in developing these qualities, as well as the
significance of ASGL's mission and vision in preparing students to be globally competent. It is
clear that by engaging in international discourse, understanding diverse perspectives, and
developing intercultural awareness, students can contribute positively to the global community
and make informed decisions that benefit society as a whole.
