Global Citizen Essay

ASGL's mission and vision establishes expectations for us as global leaders, encouraging us

to collaborate in ways that will ultimately help us to become well-rounded and understanding global

learners and leaders. ASGL's mission and vision are to help us as students and individuals. I believe

that our mission can be applied in any situation in life ranging from minute tasks to life goals. The

mission of ASGL is to, “raise global awareness through exposure and discourse, allowing us to

become aware of what is going on not only in our communities, but globally.

The mission of ASGL can only help us become more aware of what surrounds us on a

global scale, allowing us to become more open-minded, risk-takers, and culturally aware, all of

which are essential in today's globalized system. ASGL's vision affects us as students, which in turn

affects our careers; ASGL's vision is to prepare us as students to be college and career ready, as well

as globally competent. ASGL's vision and mission are just two of the outcomes that are expected of

us. We are capable of much more as global leaders/citizens, but in order to achieve more, we must

apply the qualities that we develop within ourselves to the mission and vision. Encouragement is one

of the qualities that a global citizen/leader should possess.

To be a global citizen means viewing oneself as part of a larger, interconnected world

community. Global citizens take responsibility for their actions and recognize the impact they have on

others, and the environment. In my belief, anyone can be a global citizen, regardless of their

background or current circumstances. An example of a global citizen is my mother, who has

dedicated her life preparing the best life for her children. Who is nurturing, caring, and takes care of

her children, her family, and community. She is someone who is a communicator who would actively
listen to her child, communicate effectively and respectfully, and create an environment that fosters

open minded and honest communication. My mother who is principled would uphold a set of values

and beliefs, instilling these values in her child and modeling outstanding ethical behavior. who is

caring would have a nurturing spirit, showing empathy and compassion towards her child and also

towards their community. Her qualities include being Caring, a risk-taker, and a thinker. These

qualities enable global citizens to address complex challenges and create positive change on a global

scale.

It's difficult to know or feel whether or not I'm a global citizen. It is dependent on the

requirements for becoming a global citizen, not just someone who can reflect on someone who is

balanced with others. I'm open-minded, so I'd be surprised if people called me a global citizen

because I don't consider myself one. But it's also fine if people think I'm a bad person because that's

their point of view on what they think they know but don't. Being open-minded is also a good quality;

someone who doesn't take things too seriously or let them get to their head, which would probably

qualify me as a global citizen. Another trait that may make me a better global citizen is my concern

for the community. I've volunteered in my community through clean-ups, and I'm a member of an

environmental club. In the future, I hope to combine what I've done so far with what I'll do in 8 or 10

years.

As a result of developing these critical learner profile attributes, I will be a more valuable

contributor on the global stage. As a student, I can learn to be more critical thinkers, creative problem

solvers, caring and effective communicators capable of positively and respectfully interacting with

people from all over the world. I can also be principled people with strong ethical values who act

responsibly and accountable. I can become a global citizen who is ready to make positive

contributions to their communities and the world by exhibiting these characteristics.

As global citizens, we have the power to change the world. With this power comes great

responsibility and I am certain that I will be a responsible citizen after graduating from the

Ambassador School of Global Leadership. These qualities which make up a human living a life of

global citizenship allow global citizens to cope with demanding situations and create advantageous

solutions on an international scale. I can come to be a worldwide citizen who is prepared to make

high quality contributions to my communities and the world by acting through those invaluable traits.
