“Pollution from garbage in the Oceans”

Garbage is a big problem that will be faced by humanity, because the more people
there are and the longer the time, the waste will accumulate in very large quantities. There are
lots of activities that we do that have an impact on the sea, such as the use of goods made of
plastic where the waste or garbage ends up in the ocean whether it's intentional or
unintentional. As we all know, Indonesia is a country that has vast oceans, not the least of
which are already heavily polluted by waste from the mainland or polluted by chemicals from
factory waste or for fishing. The amount of garbage in the ocean can cause many problems to
occur, for example, marine animals that think that garbage is food end up dying because they
are consumed by contaminants from micro-plastics. Just imagine if the fish from the sea that
we usually consume daily are polluted with micro-plastics, then the tissues in our body can be
automatically disrupted.
Besides being able to cause a lot of bad impacts on our seas, garbage can also become
an obstacle to sea traffic, because the garbage that is there often gets stuck in ship engines.
It's time for us to open our mindset about waste, because the first thing that must be done in
tackling this waste is to change people's views about waste. Because if managed properly,
waste still has economic value for society. The community also needs to realize that waste is
a common problem, so it needs to be solved together as well. Public awareness needs to be
built so that people are willing to manage the waste they produce by conducting training and
outreach to the surrounding community.
Intervention from the community directly is needed in managing the waste produced,
because the government cannot possibly act alone in tackling the waste problem. Lots of
community involvement in problem solving will make the community think and more easily
realize what they have done. Especially on holidays related to the sea, it would be nice for us
to work together to clean up trash around the existing beaches. With that, environmental
awareness and sensitivity can grow and develop in the community. Therefore, various parties
need to work together in raising awareness and sensitivity to the environment in students and
the community.
