Objective: Students will be able to read and tell time in English to the nearest hour, half-hour, and
quarter-hour.
Materials:
Procedure:
1. Introduction (5 minutes)
Begin by asking the students if they know how to read a clock in English.
Show them an analog clock and a digital clock and ask them to identify the different parts.
Explain to them that today they will be learning how to tell time in English on both types of clocks.
2. Teaching (15 minutes)
Use a whiteboard to draw an analog clock and demonstrate how to tell time in English to the nearest
hour, half-hour, and quarter-hour.
Use flashcards to demonstrate different time expressions (e.g., "It's one o'clock," "It's half past two,"
"It's a quarter to four").
Ask the students to practice telling time in English by calling out random times, and having them
identify the corresponding time on a clock.
3. Practice (20 minutes)
Provide each student with a worksheet that has various times in English on it.
Ask them to write the correct time on the analog and digital clocks provided.
Once they complete the worksheet, check their work and provide feedback.
4. Games (20 minutes)
Divide the class into groups of four or five.
Give each group an analog or digital clock and a set of flashcards with time expressions.
Call out a time expression and ask the groups to create that time on their clock.
The first group to create the correct time wins the round.
Repeat this activity with different time expressions until all the groups have had a chance to
participate.
5. Conclusion (5 minutes)
Review the material covered in the lesson.
Ask students if they have any questions or need further clarification on anything discussed during
the lesson.
Assessment:
Observe students during the lesson and provide feedback as they practice telling time in English.
