ART ANALYSIS

(The Parisian life by Juan Luna)

This painting is named "The Parisian life" by Juan Luna which is it's artist. Juan Luna was born on
October 23, 1857 at Badoc, Ilocos Norte and died on December 7, 1899 at British Hong Kong. Juan Luna
was a Filipino painter, sculptor and a political activist of the Philippine Evolution in the late 19th century
and he became one of the first recognized Philippine artists. The Parisian Life is a painting made by oil on
canvas, with sizes 57 cm x 79 cm and is painted on year 1892. In the painting's foreground, a woman
wearing a white dress is seated on a sofa with a table in front of her. Three people, all of whom appear
to be men based on their attire, are seen in the background and are most likely talking about something.
The elegance of the setting and the people's attire, which in that time could only be purchased by the
wealthy, make it clear from a simple glance that these are wealthy individuals.

Despite all the lavish privileges she bears, trying staring into the woman's eyes, where she does not
meet the audience, but looks down, somewhat disappointed and unhappy. Her face looks calm, yet you
can feel a vibe of unsatisfactory. Her posture may be presented straight up to perceive the woman as
proper and elite, but her position also sets her relaxing on the cushion, her legs in an unusually
uncomfortable position, where she has been more buried in thought to notice the uncomfortable
position she has unconsciously taken. This may symbolize where she as she has been busy to notice the
uncomfortable lifestyle she has, that she has just gotten used to it and has learned to ignore the misery
of it. For someone that really loves arts, I'd say that I'm so much amused by this piece that the great
Juan Luna created. The style of stroke of Juan Luna, the color scheme of the painting which gave the
artwork the vibe of which made it possible yo express just what the artist wanted to transfer to the
viewers, the emotions and feelings that the artist wanted to make the audience feel. Moreover, The
message of the piece is observable and is not just a message but a powerful and an impactful message.
This piece tells us a lesson that we'll keep in our mind that "luxury can't save anyone from every misery
we feels right now". And that can prove as a lesson to the viewers of the painting, that wealth can never
save us always, and can sometimes leave us empty even if we think we have more.
