“The Parisian Life” by Juan

Luna it was painted in the year 1892 its size
is 57 cm × 79 cm.

Award: This painting won a silver medal in

the World’s Fair Saint louis Exposition

Describe the painting and its message/

elements/ principles:

The Parisian Life (also known as Interior d’un

Café or Inside a Café) is an oil in canvas
impressionist painting. It is one of the
paintings that in a period in Juan Luna’s life,
the tones and mood of his paintings shifted
from dark to light. This is also the only
painting where Juan Luna himself is a
character in the painting. The painting (57 cm
x 79 cm in dimension) currently owned by the
Government Service Insurance System
(GSIS) is located at the National Museum of
Fine Arts. It is Juan Luna’s masterpiece that
he created in Paris, France
• Meaning/ message: The three men in
"The Parisian Life" painting are
actually heroes in Philippine History:
Jose Rizal, Ariston Bautista Lin and
Luna himself. A "Kwentong Barbero"
version of this painting explains the
story behind which is about these
men in a coffee shop exchanging
glances over a prostitute: two of them
planning who will be the first to hook
her up tonight and the other one
sharing he just actually gone to bed
with this same girl a night ago. What a
story all worth of a historical value and
international award! But if one has an
eye that can see beyond this painting
made in oil, this lady actually has a
"geographical likeness" to the mirror-
image or the map of the archipelago
of the Philippines. You put a map of
the Philippines over her and it seems
she is really the Philippines at that
time. Her knees (we kneel when we
pray) matched to Cebu in the map
where Roman Catholicism started and
on her navel (means birth) is the
Kawit, Cavite map where our First
Independence was declared and a lot
more coincidences! Her left arm a bit
detached in a downward slant
signifies the Palawan islands! She
appears to be strangled too as there
is a line on top of her head because
that time Philippines is under colony.

Social relevance/analysis: men are still

seeing women as object and trophies. It
shows the current situation on how men
objectify women to feed their ego and
masculinity.
Title of the Painting, painter, size, year
painted, award (in case there is), & other
descriptions:

“Antipolo Fiesta” by Fernando C.

Amorsolo painted in the year 1947 and its size is
51 inches (height) by 76 inches (length)

Describe the painting and its message/

elements/ principles:

This oil painting on canvas portrays a

provincial scene where a gathering of
individuals is demonstrated praising a party in
Antipolo. The principle center is around a
couple of artists in the field encompassed by
revelers both youthful and old. Plentiful food
is introduced in containers of arranged
organic products on the seats and on the
ground, just as the conventional broiled pig or
lechon being set up by two men. Close by is
a house with tremendous windows from
where tenants watch the revelers. At the
foundation is an enormous church, a
representative town structure. An immense
number of townsmen complete the
quintessence of a holiday
Meaning/ message:

It tends to be said that the pair of dancers are

in the typical same posture as those of
dancers in Fernando Amorsolo's different
notable tinikling-related compositions. A
watcher might rush to induce initially that this
artistic creation has a place with that
classification, as the bamboo controllers in
the typical tinikling move frequently mix in the
group and are not effectively recognized. Be
that as it may, there are no bamboo-
overseers present in this work of art
essentially because the artists are not playing
out the tinikling move. Accordingly, this sign
is the thing that makes this canvas
extraordinary.

Social relevance/analysis:

Filipino are additionally known for being

dedicated individuals. Working regularly
under the sun, placing all their blood, and
sweat in their work is truly tiring yet Filipino
are self-assured people seeing the positive
qualities in everything it is uncommon for
them to grumble. Regardless of being in a
troublesome circumstance, they figure out
how to grin, appreciate life and have a great
time. Also, the fiesta is constantly praised
each Sunday, for example, the gala of holy
people in each town, making the
congregation and the market be packed.
Filipino have additionally the tendency of
going to different spots to commend holiday,
sharing their food to their friends, relatives or
even neighbors. That is how they esteem
their way of life and conventions.
