Analysis

From the moment that the movie has started to play, it is a typical friendship-theme story. But if
you critically observed it, there’s a meaningful message behind of it. Adding to that, it is based on a real-
life story. The Miracle Season was filmed and produced way back 2011. This movie was after the lives of
best friends, Caroline Found and Kelley Fliehler. Both of them are members of the Iowa City West High
School Women’s Volleyball Team. Line was appointed as the team captain and considered as their star
player. Meanwhile, Kelley is a shy type yet, become the contributor of their team. In its opening
sequence, The Miracle Season establishes that if someone has a wide room in your heart, even if he/she
was gone, the memories she left will make a great impact and affect you all throughout your life.

The film is a professional made which belonged in different nominations. It conveys sad mood
first, then, excitement on its latter part. The camera angle where Caroline was riding the moped gave us
the hint that there’ll be going to happen. The last glance itself supported even what was actually the
next scene. It denoted the exact mood and action of the characters. On the excitement situation, this
happened on the championship game of West High and City High. The viewers witnessed how intense
the match was and it was evident on the actors’ faces with the help of their reaction and camera shot.
Further, it became more exciting when the women’s volleyball team got the last point to seal the two-
time title.

The transition of the main character was absolutely good. At first, we expected that Line was the
lead actor but something came up. It turned out that Kelley will be on the spotlight and continue the
legacy of her friend. After the tragedy, the story still focused to Line’s life as a friend, daughter and most
importantly, as a team captain of their team. But, with the support of Kelley’s character, it made it clear
for us how Caroline touched the heart of every character on the movie.

For the other supporting characters, the director made sure that they were evenly gave
exposure. Despite of having few lines, it justified their parts expressing the right emotions, facial
expressions, and the camera work. If you have observed their volleyball matches, the girls acted like
they are professionals on that sport. There was also a scenario where the ladies are gossiping about the
poor setting performance of Kelley. Given those acting skills, expressions, and lines, they added spice on
the film.

In the outro part, some of the real sequences and pictures were previewed. The last and
memorable moment when everyone in the arena celebrated for their win has been included. Another
actual happening was wearing the blue t-shirt with a statement, “Live Like Line.” Even their jerseys and
numbers are exactly used in the movie. What I amazed the most was the ball they had used; it caught
my attention since I am fond of volleyball. It was a pink, black, and white Spalding ball which was the
same as what they used on the event. That was a great move because it only shows that majority of the
scenes weren’t revised.

Conclusion
Taken together, The Miracle Season was a solid and exceptional film made for us in giving
memories to a star player and influencing person, Caroline Found. All the elements of a film were
divided accordingly and executed amazingly. Starting from its title, we know that so much lesson will be
learned from it. As a spectator, upon watching the movie, I can say that it is relatable for all. Just like
how Kelley and the supporting characters did, we might face downfalls, rejections, etc. but we should
allow ourselves to gain learning and use it to become stronger and bolder. Also, stepping-out from our
comfort zones is one of the messages of the film I’ve watched. There’s nothing wrong to fail or feel
negativity as long as you’re trying to be better day-by-day. If there’s an instance that someone, we’ve
loved the most left, it is a normal thing to cry or to give time for yourself to cherish your moments
together with your loved ones, but after that, take a promise that you’re going to make a comeback with
a one big fight. Listen to music that will bring back happy memories of the person closes to you. Live like
your beloved.
