COURSE INFORMATION

1. Course Number : CBM 1


2. Course Name : Organization and Management
3. Course Description : This course deals with the theories and principles of organization and management, as well as their
application in business and industry. The functions of management (Decision-making, Planning, Organizing,
Staffing, Communicating, Motivating, Leading, and Controlling) and the different forms of business ownership
including the strengths and weaknesses of each form of ownership are covered in this course. The course
also includes discussions of the importance of ethics and social responsibility as well as of the impacts of
various business environments and the different applicable control measures and coping strategies.

6. Credit : 3.0 units Lecture
7. Class/Lab Schedule : 5 hours per week (1 term)
8. Program Educational Objectives (PEO) of Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management:
Five (5) years after graduation, Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management graduates shall:
1. Demonstrate expertise in performing the prescribed range of specific functions of Tourism Management based on the local, national, and international
standards;
2. Demonstrate expertise in acquiring, understanding, and analyzing relevant data to improve service efficiency in Tourism Management; and
3. Engage in entrepreneurial ventures related to the practice of Tourism Management.

You are expected to identify various types of business, recognize objectives of business; analyze impacts of business
environments, apply/evaluate coping strategies in uncertain environments, as well as examine the application of
strategies and control measures.
You are expected to demonstrate deep understanding of ethics and social responsibility. Further, you are expected
to determine costs and benefits of social actions; choose appropriate social responsibility strategies and recognize
the importance of social audits.

(100% of the exam) You are expected to recognize-decision making as management responsibility; describe its nature, its various steps,
and the different approaches in decision making along with some models for decision-making.
You are expected to define and describe planning as a management function, examine each step in the planning
process, compare different types of plans, as well as determine various parts of the strategic plan.

17. POLICIES AND GUIDELINES


a. Attendance is counted from the first regular class meeting.
b. A validated student identification card must always be worn by all students while attending classes.
c. Cheating is strictly prohibited. Any form of dishonesty shall be dealt with accordingly. Honesty is always called for.
d. Valid examination permits are necessary for taking the examinations as scheduled.
e. Base-15 grading policy should be observed. Students who obtained failing scores in major exams are recommended to attend the
tutorial class.
