I. PRE-COMMISSIONING
Before starting the commissioning process, the following points should be checked:

1. Make sure that the voltage rating of the motor matches the drive
specification.
2. Make sure that the variable frequency drive is properly sized to run the
motor.
3. Make sure that the variable frequency drive is properly mounted in the panel.
4. Check whether the panel and VFD are properly grounded.
5. Make sure that the cables connecting the drive inputs and the cables to
the motor is properly sized.
6. Megger the cables connecting the motor and the drive after disconnecting
it from either side and ensure the cable is damage free.
7. Ensure the input power cable to the drive and cable to the motor are
properly installed and terminated.
8. Check the cable termination and connection at the motor terminal box.
9. Verify whether the power and control wiring is done properly as per the approved
diagram
10. Check the field instrument connections (if there is any).
11. Check whether the cable shields are properly grounded.
12. In case if the drive is controlled from PLC/PAC or DCS, check the
communication cables connections.
13. Check the motor for rotor jam (if possible).
14. Check whether proper cooling arrangements are provided for drive.
15. Check whether suitable circuit breaker/ Semiconductor fuse protection is
provided for the VFD.
16. Note down the rated voltage, full load current, and rated RPM of the
motor.
17. Check whether all system protections are properly installed and connected.

II. COMMISSIONING STAGE

Once the pre-commissioning stage is complete and all system is found OK, the VFD is ready
to be commissioned. Commissioning of the Panel includes the following steps.

1. First, isolate the system by opening and closing the appropriate valves.
2. Before powering up the panel, check the supply voltage at the input side of the
circuit breaker.
3. Power up the panel and input the motor data to the VFD. Also, set all other control
and communication parameters necessary. (min/max frequency, acc/dec time,
references, I/Os, etc)
4. After powering up, check if the “STOP” indicator light is lit.
5. Turn the selector switch to “MANUAL” and press the “START” button. The green
indicator light should turn, the red indicator light turns off and the VFD starts to run
the motor.
6. When the motor starts running, check its running current using a clamp meter and
check if airflow direction is correct. If the current does not meet the motor rated
current and no bubbles are present in the aeration tank, turn off the system and
change the motor phasing either through the VFD or manually interchanging the
motor wires.
7. Upon correction, run the system again to check if the running current and airflow
direction has been corrected.
8. Once the system meets the standard parameters, repeat steps 1 to 7 for the
remaining 2 units of VFD.

III. POST-COMMISSIONING STAGE

After the successful commissioning of the panels, make a technical report of the works done.
