Midterm and Final Exam

1. What did you learn about Socrates?

I learned that by posing important questions and weighing potential answers against
logic and reality in an ongoing, moral dialogue, we learn best. We must approach the
current boom of knowledge and the technology igniting this new illumination in just
that way. We should strive to understand ourselves as much as possible and constantly
probe both our surroundings and ourselves. Socrates benefited others by assisting them
in understanding themselves. Real insights, in his opinion, can only emerge from within.
They cannot be forced upon or taught by others.

2. What is arete? Why is arete important in achieving justice in the society?

Arete is an ancient Greek word meaning excellence or virtue. The highest possible
quality state for something is called its arete. When you live by the arete principle, you
pay attention to the caliber of everything you do and encounter. Avoid taking
inattentive actions. Take acts with arete in mind. Compared to the two primary
tendencies perceive from prevalent Western ideologies, arete offers a more holistic
perspective on life. Arete is important because when you live by the arete principle, you
pay attention to the caliber of everything you do and encounter. Avoid taking
inattentive actions.
