SUFFIX MEANING
-ful full of
-less without

The suffix –ful oten means “full of”; if you

are handful, you are full of hand; if it is
colorful, it is full of color and if you are
poweful, you are full of power.
The suffix –less means “ without”. If you

(without hope). If it is useless, there is no
use.

There’s also the rules on adding suffixes –

ful and –less .
RULES EXAMPLES
Foor rootword Faith+ -ful= Faithful
ending in any Fear+less=Fearless
letter except y,
the suffix –ful
and –less is
simply added.
For rootword Beauty+ -
ending in y, ful=Beautiful
change y to i and penny+less=pennyless
add the suffix –
ful and less.

Suffixes –ful and –less are also often used

with the same words to form opposite. For
example, COLORFUL means full of color
and COLORLESS means without color.
Teacher’s Activity Pupils’ Activity
They are opposite because of the suffixes
–ful and –less added in the word. .But this is
not always true. For example, A person with
