Reading Section
In this part of the test you will have the chance to show how well you understand written English. There
are four parts to this section, with special directions for each part.

Part V.
Questions : 16 to 31.
Directions :
Questions 16 – 31 are based on a selection of reading materials, such as recount text, proedure text, factual
report text, descriptive text, notice, application letter, advertisements, etc. Choose the one best answer, (A),
(B), (C), or (D), to each question. Answer all the questions following each reading selection on the basis of
what is stated or implied in the selection. Then, on your answer sheet, find the number of the question and
mark your answer.

Pele is the most iconic footballer of the twentieth Century. He epitomized the flair, joy and
passion the Brazilians bought to the game. Pele’s career spanned throughout the 1950s, 1960s and
1970s.
In his early career, the young and unknown Pele helped inspire Brazil to victory in the 1958
World Cup. In 1962, Brazil retained the World Cup. In 1966, Brazil was hot favorites, but, lost out to
the home nation England.
His crowing glory was the Brazilian victory in the 1970 World Cup in Mexico. In this world
cup, some of the football played by Brazil and Pele was widely considered to the greatest in the
history of the game. Brazil won the final 4-1 against Italy; it was a genuine advertisement for the
‘beautiful game’ and a fitting pinnacle of Pele’s international career.
Pele finished his career in the lucrative US league. In 1975, he signed for New York Cosmos
and played three seasons. He led the New York Cosmos to the US title in 1977 – the year of his
retirement.
After retiring, he has gone onto be a great ambassador for football and sport in general. In 1992,
Pele was appointed a UN ambassador for ecology and the environment. He was also appointed a
UNESCO goodwill ambassador. He is not only one of the most gifted footballers of his generation,
but, also a mild mannered man who used his fame and prestige for a positive effect.

How to Make Mini Plant Pots
Materials:
▪ 1 egg carton
▪ Four seed packets
▪ Some potting soil
▪ Water
Equipments:
▪ Scissors
▪ A black marker
▪ A spoon
▪ A plate
Steps:
1. Cut off the top of the egg carton and leave the bottom part.
2. Take four cups from the egg carton and smoothen the edges by cutting them with scissors.
3. Mark each pot with the name of each plant.
4. Add a few scoops of potting soil to each of the egg cups.
5. Place a few plant seeds in the labeled pot.
6. Set all the pots in a large plate. Place them near the window to get enough sunlight.
7. Water the plants sufficiently according to the instruction found in the seed packages.
8. Move the plants to bigger pots or to the garden when they grow too big to fit the pots. The plants
can be directly planted in the garden without getting rid of the egg cups because they are
decomposable.
