STRUCURAL CODE OF THE PHILIPPINES

Structural code means the written and approved codes prescribing structural standards to be strictly
followed. It is necessary for engineers , planning and construction teams to ensure proper analysis of the
structure. This would ensure the safety for general welfare and achieved economic standards as well.

Types of Loads on Structures and Buildings

1. Dead loads – weight of the materials used for its structure (trusses, beams, columns, etc.) and
also permanent equipments,
2. Live loads- refer to the weight of the occupants considering if it is for private dwellings or for
public usage.
3. Wind loads – the load causes by the wind. It is necessary to analyze the wind load especially
in the case for typhoon or hurricane prone areas.
4. Snow loads – the load causes by the snow. Analyzing the snow load during winter is a must
since it carry weight.
5. Earthquake loads – one of the most crucial analysis is earthquake loads since it is both
vertical and horizontal forces that includes shaking to the structure.
