Dream Classroom Project

I’ve never really thought about how I wanted my dream classroom to be set up, even

though I always think about having my own classroom I’ve never thought about how I wanted

thing to look and how I can manage the 6 keys and affordances. One thing I also want in my

classroom but can be hard is allowing my students to make the classroom their own, so they

feel comfortable as well.

When I was creating my classroom I started by drawing the door to keep students safe, and

mailboxes because this is something I think is important, when students walk in the door they

will see their mailboxes, this is where they can put anything they would like to bring home with

them, this is also where I will put any handouts that need to go home with them. This is right by

the door so when the students are leaving for the day they are able to grab anything out of

their mailbox to put in their backpack and bring home. Next to the mailboxes I have the first aid

station, in this station I will have band aids, unscented lotion, one time use icepacks, hand

sanitizer, and tissues. All of these things will be accessible to at any time. The next think I added

to my classroom was a sink and extra throw away cups for students to use if they need a drink,

having a sink in the classroom will also allow students to be able to wash their hands any time

they need without having to leave the classroom. On the wall above the sink I will put all of the

students birthdays this will show the students that they are all important and that I want to

celebrate with them on their special day, this creates a sense of love and belonging. Next to the

sink there are just storage space for me to store things we are not using. Above the counter
there will be a class jobs chart giving each student a new job each week allowing students to

feel successful when they complete their jobs.

The next part of the classroom I added was the snack cart, this will support students

who may just need the extra snack to get them through the day but also support the students

who do not have access to snacks at home. I then added my own work space with my desk and

storage that the students will not have access to. The white boards and SMART board was next

this is a basic thing in every classroom that allows for both the teacher and students to be

successful, but can also be used for fun and enjoyment when there is downtime during the day.

The next very important thing I added was the rug in the front of the classroom, this will be a

place where we can start our day creating a sense of belonging because everyone has a place to

sit together.

I then added more storage for the students, this is a place that allows all of the students to have

their own bin with supplies and anything else they want to keep safe within the classroom. This

storage space will also have extra supplies such as pens, markers, colored pencils, paper, and

anything else that the students may need through out the day. Above the students storage

space will be a bin of extra pencils that the students have access to incase they need one. On

the wall above their space will be two windows for natural light, and the student work wall, this

is where all of their artwork will be placed, this will show students that their work is important,

this will also add some color and fun into the classroom. I also added our class rules to this wall

so no matter where the students are sitting, they are able to see them, this will remind all

students how we stay safe as a class and what is expected of them, under the class rules is

where students are able to turn in any homework they have completed allowing for things to
stay organized. The next thing I added was the student tables with five students at each table, I

choose this so the students are able to work together and build a team with the table they are

sitting at, the students will also be able to rely on their team to answer questions giving them a

sense of success and purpose by helping one another.

I then added my small group table, this is where I will be able to work with students as a

group or individually, this table will allow students to be successful by getting the help they

need. The next thing I added was the word wall this is something that can be helpful to the

students but also add to the aesthetics of the classroom by adding word to the wall as we learn

them. The last think I added was my classroom library this will give students the freedom and

independence of choosing a book they want to read but to also sit on the different types of

seating from pillows to bean bag chairs. These chair can add a sense of fun into the classroom

because it is something different they are able to use throughout the day.

This dream classroom assignment really made me think about the 6 keys, the physical

environment, management, and affordances. I truly enjoyed thinking about when I have my

own classroom and how I want it to look and how I want thing to function, hopefully one day I

can make it real!
