EXT. LOCAL PARK – MIDDAY - 2013

YOUNG FRANCESCA, a small child around 6 with brunette hair,

olive skin and freckles, is playing in a local park when the
ball she is playing with rolls into the road. She follows the
ball into the road. A car speeds towards her. Francesca’s
mother AMANDA, a tall woman with auburn hair and olive skin,
runs towards her and drags her out of the road before the car
can hit her. They both lie on the floor panting, eyes wide,
Francesca starts crying and Amanda holds her.

INT. KITCHEN – EVENING

Amanda is pacing the kitchen yelling at Francesca while

Francesca sits on a kitchen chair crying.

AMANDA
(Crying and yelling)

HOW COULD YOU BE SO STUPID?! WEVE TAUGHT YOU ABOUT

ROAD SAFETY! YOU COULD’VE DIED! JUST GO AWAY I
CAN’T LOOK AT YOUR RIGHT NOW.

Francesca runs off crying, Amanda sits down on the kitchen

table and lays her head in her hands, she starts to cry.

INT. KITCHEN – EARLY AFTERNOON - 2019

PRE-TEEN FRANCESCA, a young girl around 12 years old with

brunette hair and olive skin, is stood leaning on the fridge.
Amanda is sat at the kitchen table with her head in her hands
as a report card lays on the table with less-than-ideal grades
on. Francesca begins to argue with Amanda about how it’s not
her fault and Amanda begins to snap back.

PRE-TEEN FRANCESCA

It’s not my fault, the teachers are crap, all they

care about is getting through the course. I’ve
told them I don’t understand but they just don’t
listen, I think I’m like dyslexic or something.
They think I’m just pissing about.
 AMANDA

And why would they think that, Frankie? Probably

because all you do is piss about. You’re never
going to get anywhere if you don’t start
listening, stop trying to find something else to
blame it on, you’re not dyslexic, you’re just too
obsessed with that stupid boy and those bloody
friends of yours!

PRE-TEEN FRANKIE

My friends don’t even sit near me, how could they

be the problem! You never believe me; you always
just think I’m the issue!

Standing up from her seat

AMANDA

Well, you’ve never proven me wrong Francesca! What

the hell am I supposed to think, it can’t be every
single teacher, they’re literally trained to deal
with kids who can’t understand! They can’t help
you learn if you don’t want to!

Standing up from leaning on the fridge, and walking towards

PRE-TEEN FRANCESCA

You’re such an arse! You’d rather believe someone

you’ve never even met over your daughter.

AMANDA
(Following pre-teen Francesca)

have the right to talk to me like that! You’re
such an ungrateful little brat!

PRE-TEEN FRANCESCA
(Standing in the door of her bedroom)

YEAH, AND YOURE A BITCH!

Pre-teen Francesca slams the door on Amanda and Amanda just
stares at the door with her mouth wide open, she turns around
and puts her back against the door. Parallel editing of the
two as both slide their backs down the door and sit on the
floor, they both place the back of their heads on the door.

INT. FRANCESCAS BEDROOM – MIDDAY – 2023

FRANCESCA, a tall girl with auburn hair, olive skin and

freckles, sits on the bed with JOSEPH, a tall boy with dark
brown hair and tanned skin, they lean in to kiss when the door
slams open. Amanda storms in and begins yelling at her.

AMANDA

I knew it you little shit! I saw his car outside!

FRANCESCA

MUM, WHAT THE HELL! HAVE YOU NEVER HEARD OF

PRIVACY!?

AMANDA

I TOLD YOU HE WAS NOT ALLOWED IN THIS HOUSE! HES

NOTHING BUT A BAD INFLUENCE!

FRANCESCA

YOU’RE SUCH A COW! HES MY BOYFRIEND, YOU CAN’T

EXPECT ME TO JUST NOT SEE HIM!

AMANDA

YOU HAVE NO RESPECT; THIS IS MY HOUSE! YOU DON’T

GET TO BRING WHOEVER YOU WANT INTO MY HOME!

FRANCESCA

OK WELL IF THIS IS YOUR HOUSE THEN I’LL JUST

LEAVE! YOU CLEARLY DON’T WANT ME HERE!
Francesca grabs a bag from on top of her drawers and starts to
stuff clothes in.

AMANDA

What are you doing Francesca? Stop being stupid,

it’s so immature.

Francesca grabs Josephs hand and walks towards the doorway

where Amanda is stood, he looks concerned but follows
Francesca anyway. Amanda stands in the doorway to stop the two
leaving.

FRANCESCA

MOVE!

AMANDA

NO!

Francesca pushes past Amanda and walks down the stairs towards
the front door pulling Joseph behind her.

AMANDA

FRANKIE STOP PLEASE! WHY ARE YOU BEING LIKE THIS?

DON’T YOU SEE WHAT HES DOING TO YOU!?

Francesca opens the front door and walks out; she turns back
around to face Amanda.

FRANCESCA

I HATE YOU! YOU SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN A MOTHER!

Francesca then slams the door.
