of what our lesson for today could be.

“4 Pics 1 Word”
Our activity is called “4 Pics 1 Word”. Most of you
might be familiar with this game. Here, you will look
at 4 pictures in 1 set. These pictures are clues for you
to guess the 1 word to describe all of them.

It is very easy, yet you need to do a little logic.
Are you ready?

Students: Yes, Sir!

Students engage in the activity.

and values of playing by the rules.

Before I start, may I ask you to raise your hand if you have
played or watched a baseball game before?

(If someone has raised a hand, say: That’s good! This topic
is very interesting to you.)

(If no one raised their hand, say: It is okay. This sport is

very challenging for new learner, but to understand it
easier, we will watch a video.)

TASK: Sportswriter
Class, I will be playing a 10-minute-long video. We will
pause from time to time to discuss and review. You
job is to be a sportswriter. Write down as many
points, learning, and information as you can from the
video. You will use that during our activity and exam
later.

If you have question, please chat it on the chat box

and wait for it to be noticed and answered.
Is that understood?
Alright! Let us now watch the video.

Students: Yes, Sir!

● The game of baseball is played on a diamond-

shaped playing field. The four corners of the

diamond are the home plate, first base, second
base and third base.
● A baseball game is played between two teams
(batting team & fielding team) of nine players
who each have nine innings.

(Video stops at 01:07)

● Player’s score runs by hitting the ball and
running around the four bases (running in a
counterclockwise direction) before a player in the
field can get them out.

● So, this is the view of the baseball field from top.

● A batter is out if he or she fails to connect with the
ball three times after three good pitches —
which is often referred to as being ‘out on
strikes.

● A foul ball is a batted ball that settles on foul
territory between home and first base, or between
home and third base, or that bounds past first or
third based on, or over, foul territory, or that first
falls on foul territory beyond first or third base, or
that while on, or over, foul territory, touches the
person of an umpire or player, or any object
foreign to the natural ground.
● Foul Territory: the part of the playing field outside
the first and third base lines extended to the fence
and perpendicularly upwards.

(Video stops at 07:54)

● A putout is the act of a fielder in retiring a batter
or runner. For putouts credited to the catcher and
to other fielders.
● A tag out is the put out of a runner, including the
batter-runner, who is not in contact with his base
when touched with a live ball, or with the glove or
hand when the live ball is held securely therein by
a fielder.
● A force-out is a putout during which a runner who
is being forced to advance is tagged out, or is put
out by a fielder who holds the ball while touching
the base toward which the forced runner is
advancing
● A strikeout is the result of the pitcher getting a
third strike charged to a batter. This usually
results in the batter being out but does not so
result if the third strike
is not caught and the batter-runner

legally reaches first base.
● A throw out is a putout caused by a throw to first
base to retire a batter-runner, or to any other base
to which a runner is forced or is required to
retouch.

Now look at the following hand signals:

Baseball fans can get loud. Sometimes, they get loud.

That’s why umpires (the officials in baseball) use hand

signals. That way, the players, coaches, fans in the stands
and fans watching TV all know what’s happening.

umpires use during a game to communicate with players,
coaches, scorekeepers, and other umpires.

the ball.

I am glad you have learned from our lesson.
E. VALUING
During our discussion earlier, what value has shown when
working as a group? Yes, Sam
Sam: Sir, in baseball, it is important to
have rapport with your teammates. For
example, the pitcher must be aware of
the location of his teammates and
