Homework 1:
1. Determine the load in kN/m on the 70 mm x 300 mm beam that spans between walls. The
beam has a pitch of 25º. Battens are 36 mm x 36 mm at 350 mm spacing.
The densities are as follows: Battens – 400 kg/m3, Beams – 500 kg/m3
Tiles have a mass of 55 kg/m2 and the ceiling – 15 kg/m2. Include the weight of the beam.
2. The concrete plan of the layout of the foundations and slabs of a proposed building is
shown. The building will be 4 storeys and each column will be as shown. The slabs will get a 50
mm finish with a density of 2000 kg/m3. Determine the load on the base of column B2.
