board eliminates the optics board initialization issue that can occur when the -109 optics board is
combined with a specific Quad board on an i2000 or i2000SR system. This issue cannot occur on
the i1000SR systems because this Quad board is not present in the power supply. The -110
optics board provides the same improvements as the -109 board. The -110 optics board is
equivalent to the -109 and meets all the corrective action requirements associated with the -109
board.

The new Optics board increases the optics pulse data read rate to every 5 milliseconds (msec).
The current optics board has a read rate of 100 milliseconds. The 20X faster read rate will assist
in identifying a static spike that can then be filtered from the data set. Eliminating these spikes will
provide an additional level of robustness to the optics subsystem and reduce the number of
erroneous 1007 errors reported by the system.

This TSB contains a software update that turns off the static detection algorithm that was
implemented in the v7 software release. This algorithm identifies static spikes within a result
which generates a 1007 error and sends the test to exceptions. This algorithm would also
misidentify some fast reacting assays as static spikes which would also generate a 1007 error
and send the test to exceptions. Because of this issue, the algorithm is disabled by the software
update in this TSB. This static detect algorithm has been disabled in the v8 software release and
therefore the software update in this TSB is no longer required. Any instrument with the new
optics board, that experiences 1007 errors when running fast reacting assays should be
upgraded to v8 software. The software files attached to this TSB should be used for disaster
recovery on instruments that have v7 software and have had this TSB previously installed.

Summary of Changes:
 Added cut in serial numbers for the new optics board to the instruments requiring
modifications field.
 Added information in the purpose section stating the software portion of this TSB is no longer
required with the release of v8 software.
 Added note to Attached Files table and Software Installation procedure.
 Removed information in the Administrative notes regarding v8 software and new installs.
 Revised the Administrative notes to provide clarifying information regarding instruments
requiring modification.
 Removed repetitive information in Administrative notes regarding the software upgrade in this
TSB and new installs.
 Added clarifying information to the Administrative notes regarding instruments requiring
modification.

III. ADMINISTRATIVE NOTES:

Instruments Requiring Modification:
 All active instruments in the field that are outside of the manufacturing serial number cut in
range will require this TSB to be installed. This TSB is not required if TSB 117-027 has
already been installed.
 The Dallas manufacturing serial number cut in for the new style optics -109 or -110 board is
i1SR03978.
 The Flextronics manufacturing serial number cut in for the new style optics -109 or -110
board is i1SR50452.
 Installation of this TSB is not required if TSB 117-027 has been performed on the instrument.
 All instruments lower than the manufacturing serial number cut in will require the this TSB to
be installed.
 Once this TSB is completed, the completion of TSB 117-027 is no longer required. Tickets

assigned as a result of TSB 117-027 may be voided/cancelled as per the applicable call
documentation procedure (i.e. CMSNext Version 3.0 User Guide, Navigator Reference Guide
(rev 2.0), or Pathfinder Reference Guide (rev 1.0).

Other Administrative Notes:

 The system software version must be at v7.00 or v7.01 before installing this software update.
 The software update in this TSB will be included in v8.00 software release. Performing the
software installation in this TSB is not required for systems at v8.00 and higher.
 The software update must only be performed if a -110 optics board is present. Do not replace
a -109 or -110 optics board with an older style board. Installing an old style board after this
TSB has been installed could cause erroneous results.
 This TSB must be performed during all new installs until v8.00 software has been released.
 The classification for this TSB is "Mandatory" and implementation is required for all
instruments in the serial number range shown above. A TSB service ticket must be
completed for all instruments as this upgrade is performed. It is the responsibility of each
area service manager or country manager to monitor the completion progress of this TSB.

ATTACHED FILES
The installation of these files are no longer required. Installing the software update should be done for
disaster recovery on instruments where v7 software and this TSB have been previously installed. Any
instrument that experiences 1007 errors when running fast reacting assays should be upgraded to v8
software.
