1. PLANNING INFORMATION

A. Effectivity
This Service Bulletin is applicable to Lynx NGT-9000, Part No. 9029000-20000/-40000.

B. Concurrent Requirements
If upgrading from Release 1.x, replacement of databases is also required. Databases for
Airport (68DC), Map (72DC), and Terrain (71DC) are available from Jeppesen ®. Refer to
the referenced installation manual for details on obtaining database software and
procedures to load the databases using the MPC (MAT). See Service Letter SL-317.

C. Reason
This Service Bulletin implements software modifications to Lynx NGT-9000.
Release 4.0 software update incorporates the following changes:
• Provide TA Aural Delay 1 second configuration option. When this option is enabled,
Traffic Alert is delayed for one second on aural annunciation and TA discrete outputs.
• MPC tool updates to support new features and new IO interfaces. The tool change
also enables new configuration settings to be seen. There is no need to revisit these
configuration settings because all existing settings are maintained.
• Provide a TCAS Only configuration option. When this option is enabled, all other
NGT-9000 functionality including TAWS, GPS, Transponder, ADS-B In, ADS-B Out,
TIS-B, FIS-B are disabled.
• Support dual external GPS sources, GTN-650/750 control panels, external Radio
Altimeters.
• Updates the GPS/UAT module to address a date determination (GPS Epoch)
problem that will occur in 2038. There is no benefit now, but after 2038, this will
enhance the FIS-B reporting.
• Improved TCAS/TAS processing for Helicopter applications.
• Provide an option to enable fault logging while on-ground.

D. Description
This Service Bulletin gives instructions for installing Operational Software from Master
Media, Part No. 9020010-011 by final Acceptance Test on a Manual Test Station (MTS) to
update the Lynx NGT-9000, Part No. 9029000-20000/-40000 with Release 4.0 functionality.
After installation and verification that the software installed successfully, the Media
Identification Label on the front of the unit must be changed to show Software Release 4.0.
The Airworthiness Analysis is not changed.

E. Compliance
The work referred to in this Service Bulletin is recommended when the component is
returned to a Service Center for inspection, test, or repair.
The work referred to in this Service Bulletin is optional, based on individual operator
requirements, when the component is on the aircraft. If the installation is on a rotorcraft with
TAS/TCAS option enabled, TAS/TCAS processing is enhanced. For all aircraft, a GPS
Epoch change is included which will not be useful until 2038.

F. Approval
This Service Bulletin contains no modification information that revises the approved
configuration and therefore does not require governmental or other regulatory agency
approval.
After completing this modification, it is the responsibility of the aircraft operator to get “Return
to Service” authorization, if necessary, from the applicable regulatory authorities.

G. Manpower
A total of 0.5 man-hours are necessary for this upgrade, divided into two tasks:
Approximately 0.25 man-hours are necessary when this modification is completed at a
Service Center or on-board an aircraft. An additional 0.25 man-hours are necessary to
complete manual test procedures and final test of the unit.

H. Weight and Balance

Not changed.

I. Electrical Load Data
