1. Planning Information
This Service Bulletin is provided to owner/operators of Avidyne DFC90 Autopilot equipped Cirrus
airplanes modified under STC SA00296BO. This optional Service Bulletin is to upgrade the DFC90
autopilot system to provide new envelope alerting and envelope protection functionality of the
DFC90 Release 2 software. This Service Bulletin requires several changes. This includes equipment
upgrades, updating aircraft operating and maintenance documentation, and an alteration to the
aircraft wiring.

1.1 Distribution/Eligibility
This Service Bulletin is intended for distribution only to those groups indicated below with a check
mark under “Distribute To,” and only groups indicated below with a check mark under “Service
Performed by” may perform the Accomplishment Instructions contained in Section 3.

1.2 Effectivity/Compatibility
This Service Bulletin applies to the Avidyne DFC90 Autopilot, P/N 700-00170-000, when installed
in a Cirrus SR2X airplane.

1.3 Concurrent Requirements


This upgrade requires both the Avidyne PFD to have Mod 55 and 530-00214-002 Rev 05 Release
8.0.5 (or later) and the Avidyne DFC90 Autopilot to be upgraded to Release 2 (or later). Contact

1.4 Reason
This Service Bulletin describes the requirement for upgrading the Avidyne DFC90 to provide full
Envelope Protection/Envelope Alerting from the DFC90 Autopilot.

1.5 Description
This service bulletin provides instructions for updating equipment, updating documentation,
aircraft alteration, and post-installation testing required to upgrade the Avidyne DFC90
Autopilot to provide full Envelope Protection/Envelope Alerting capability.

1.6 Compliance
This Service Bulletin is optional.

1.7 Approval
The engineering data underlying the accomplishment instructions contained in Section 3 are FAA
approved. No other portion of this Service Bulletin is FAA approved.

1.8 Time Required


The time to accomplish the flap position wiring described in this service bulletin and installation
drawing 901-00040-000 will take one person approximately 4 hours. This does not include time
required for removing/ replacing the DFC90 and PFD for any necessary upgrades. Please check
with your preferred Avidyne Dealer to obtain quote as hours may vary.

All documents can be found on Avidyne’s Dealer Website. Upgrades to Release 2 software require
some new pilot guide pages to be inserted before release of the aircraft. Installers may order part
number “600-00283-000 DFC90 Pilot Guide Update from Rev 03 to Rev 04” from Avidyne at no cost.”

2. Material – Cost and Availability


Cost: Reference the bill of materials on the installation drawings for small parts. The software
upgrade to the DFC90 autopilot costs $500.

3. Accomplishment Instructions
1. Install and test Flap wiring per Avidyne Drawing 901-00040-000.
2. After performing equipment upgrades described in Section 1.3, perform Post-installation tests
described in Avidyne Document AVDFC-096.
3. Update all aircraft documents indicated in Section 1.12.
4. After successfully completing Steps 1-3, make appropriate entry in the Aircraft Maintenance Log
Book.
