System Setup Page
1. Turn on the PFD by applying power to the aircraft via
the battery switch. Allow system to begin normal start up
sequence.
2. Simultaneously press and hold the top left (L1), and
third down from the top left (L3) buttons until the
countdown timer in the lower left corner of the display
indicates zero seconds.
3. Press A/C Model, as required, until the appropriate
aircraft model displays on the button label. It is very
important that you select the correct aircraft model
because some of the features available for the PFD
are dependent on the aircraft model.
4. Press Back to PFD- Saves your changes and returns to
the PFD flight state.
Avionics Setup Page
1. Ensure the other avionics, as appropriate to your
aircraft, are connected to the PFD in accordance with
the wiring diagrams in the Entegra EXP5000 PFD
Installation manual.
2. Select the appropriate avionics selections match with
the installed avionics on your aircraft:
• Nav 1/Nav 2 – Select the GPS/VHF
navigator system
• A/P Type- Select type of autopilot installed.
• ADF-Select the type of ADF installed.
• Engine DAU-Select whether or not DAU is
installed.
• CoPilot PFD-Select whether or not Copilot
PFD is installed.
3. Press Back to PFD button saves your changes and
returns to the PFD flight state.
4. After selecting the avionics configuration on the PFD,
you must also configure the Garmin 420/430/530 GNS
unit to communicate with the PFD.
Display Format/Units Page
1. Select the display options you want to be displayed
as option Show.
• Trim Ann- Shows Trim autopilot annunciation
• A/P Annun –Shows autopilot annunciations
• V-Speeds-Shows the Vspeed labels
• Baro Units-Set the units used for the baro
setting.
• Fuel Units- Determine units used for fuel flow
and fuel quantity.
• Horiz Marks- Shows horizon heading reference
Marks.
• ARS- Determines the type of Aircraft Reference
Symbol (ARS) is displayed on the ADI. If W
is selected Flight Director command bars
will not be displayed.
2. Press Back to PFD saves your changes and returns
to the PFD flight state.

Calibration Page
Magnetometer Calibration
1. Make sure that the calibration procedure is done in a known
magnetically clean area at least 200 ft. from metal structures of any
kind and not above areas that may have underground fuel tanks or
steel rebar in the concrete ramp. Avidyne suggests using an
approved compass rose for this procedure. Aircraft doors are
closed. Flaps are in retracted position. The airplane is reasonably
level.
2. Turn battery switch to on. Consider attaching an external
power cart until ready for step 5 unless you are performing this
calibration with the engine running and alternator(s) on. All other
aircraft equipment shall be operating.
3. Allow the PFD to align until the ADAHRS countdown timer
expires and is removed from the display.
4. Wait in the aligned state for an additional 10 minutes.
5. Enter System Setup and scroll to Calibrations Page.
6. Press the Perform Mag Cal button.
7. Manually align or taxi the aircraft such that the centerline of the
airplane is on magnetic north (360° ± 1° or less) heading as
indicated by the Handheld Site Compass operator. It is critical
that you take the time you need to fine-tune each calibration
point.
8. Follow the directions on the Magnetometer Calibration Page
(press the Calibrate Heading button and wait until “Done”
displays.
9. Repeat the procedure to align the centerline of the airplane on
consecutive 30° headings (12 total calibration points) as
indicated by the Handheld Site Compass operator by manually
repositioning or taxiing the aircraft as required. Continue
following the directions of the Magnetometer Calibration Page
until complete.
Note: On the last heading calibration point (330°), it may take up
to a minute for “Done” to display.
If any of the 12 calibration points display Failed, rather than
Done, press the Redo Previous button to “undo” the previous
step and repeat the calibration point.
Note: If you stop the calibration process (by, for example, exiting
the Magnetometer Calibration Page or shutting off power to the
PFD) before completion, you will lose the stored calibration
parameters. You will need to restart the calibration process over
from the beginning.
10. After the last heading point of 330° is calibrated the PFD will
display the following message: “Mag Cal Complete: Return to
PFD. Cycle Power”. After this message appears, wait
approximately 10 seconds and then press Back to PFD and then
wait another 10 seconds and then cycle power to the PFD.
11. Wait for the PFD to completely initialize, approximately 3
minutes.
12. Post Calibration Verification: Align the centerline of the
airplane with consecutive 90° headings (90, 180, 270, 360) as
indicated by the Handheld Site Compass: For single PFD
installations, verify that the Pilot PFD heading display is within ±
4° of the Handheld Site Compass. For dual PFD installations, to
prevent pilot/copilot miscompares, verify that the Copilot PFD
heading display is within ± 2° of the Handheld Site Compass. The
calibration is now complete.

Autopilot In-flight Setup and Checkout
Preliminary Checkout Steps
To start system checkout:
1. While NAV (without GPSS) mode is engaged on the System
55X or System 55SR, using a GNS-4XX GPS source, insert an
appropriately sized screwdriver into the slotted hole to perform
the alignment procedures in accordance with the System 55X
or System 55SR Installation Manual.
2. Perform a NAV course alignment by slowly adjusting the
screw until the aircraft closely tracks the GPS course.
Allow the aircraft to stabilize between adjustments.
This may take several minutes and require several
adjustments.
Autopilot Checkout for S-TEC System 55X and S-TEC
System 1500 Autopilots
To begin in-flight calibration for Non-Flight-Director
Enabled PFDs:
1. Engage the 55X or 55SR in HDG mode and allow aircraft to
“settle on Heading Bug” (If Heading Bug agrees with aircraft
heading stop procedure here, other wise continue calibration
steps below).
2. Turn OFF all GPS/NAV sources.
3. Enter System Setup mode on the PFD.
4. Turn ON all GPS/NAV sources.
5. Use the left knob to scroll to the Calibration Tab.
6. Select Perform A/P Cal.
7. Select Sync HDG. The autopilot should immediately
command the aircraft to turn toward the Heading Bug.
8. Select Back to PFD.
9. Verify that HDG mode accurately tracks Heading Bug.
10. Engage NAV (without GPSS) mode on the autopilot.
11. Verify that NAV mode accurately tracks a flightplan (you
will need to enter a flightplan or waypoint). Autopilot calibration
is complete.

Note: Perform the following steps in-flight in smooth air. Autopilot calibration is complete.

If the autopilot does not track the Heading Bug or NAV mode
correctly, repeat the steps in this procedure.
