Chapter 1: Introduction
"Learn continually - there's always "one more thing" to learn!"

-Steve Jobs

Steve jobs, an American business magnate, industrial designer, media proprietor, and

investor, Co-founder of Apple. A quote that summarizes today’s post pretty well. Lifelong

learning, or the ”on going, voluntary, and self-motivated” pursuit of knowledge throughout

life, is essential to keep your personal and professional skills in shape over time. Even if you

have left Lund University a year, five years or many decades ago, there are always

opportunities to come back to learn more. For a course, programmer, professional education

or online opportunities.

The importance in today’s world is to navigate or efficiently do work to avoid unnecessary

objects that may distract others or either something that will give the client, worker, student,

teacher, and others a hard time on the task they were given. And that why we introduce to a

wonderful site/app called Microsoft Teams, a program that can help people to organize a

facility or a team to do works fairly easy and efficient, It can provide certain spread sheets

on a neatly organized folder in order to show the client or teacher the final results of the task

that you have completed on a basis. Provide a meeting that will give information’s virtually

in a pristine manner of time and quality of the communication of the person or provide

results that will be fitting to the person who worked hard for the grade they are intended to

get.

(Survey)

However, today they are some people or to be specific a grade 11 ICT Students may have

encountered some difficulties that may trouble them handling some features on Microsoft

teams or some problems on the Microsoft team's limits. Like the unstable connection that

needs to be stable in order to get a certain job done or collaborations that may become an

issue on whether there they shouldn’t be appeared or what not. Security and privacy

concerns, Users may have concerns about the security and privacy of their data on Teams.

This can be addressed by ensuring that the organization has appropriate security and privacy

policies in place, and that users are aware of these policies and how to follow them.

This is why we here as researchers to provide people help and comfort for them to help any

difficulties that may encounter on their daily basis of using Microsoft team as a

working/learning environment. Concerns they may have will be answered through possible

ways of solving them through basic and simple guides that can train and instruct them to

have a very wary way of teaching them to become dependable in their selves.

Chapter 2: Review of Related Literature

Foreign Literature

Original Paper Jadara University Students’ Attitudes towards the Use of Microsoft

Teams in Learning English as a Foreign Language

The era is witnessing many changes in Information Technology (IT), and this has led to

unprecedented changes in the widespread use of technology in education. This led to the

need to keep pace with changes from educational systems to face the problems that societies

face, such as an increase in literacy and the ability to compensate for the shortfall of

academic and training cadres in some sectors through virtual classes and to provide an

interactive environment rich in multiple sources that serve educational processes in all its

sector (Martin & Tapp, 2019).Online learning appeared to help those willing to acquire

knowledge. The time one chooses without being restricted to specific places or times, and

also for learning through electronic content that differs in its preparation technique from

what is presented in traditional books, where it contains multiple media and patterns of

simultaneous and asynchronous interaction (Ko & Rossen, 2017) Empirical studies have

been conducted to investigate and evaluate the implementation of MT. Based on the

literature review, many studies were conducted to investigate the attitudes of learners

towards using ICT in learning and teaching (Ingeç, 2015; Maruthavanan, 2020).

Maruthavanan (2020) conducted a study to find out the attitude of students and teachers

Pg
YOUNG ACHIEVERS’ SCHOOL OF CALOOCAN INC.
7 Ramos Compound, Bagumbong Caloocan City

towards learning through MOODLE. The study has used a survey from 100 participants of

teachers and students to find out their attitudes towards learning through MOODLE. The

findings showed that the participant’s attitudes were positive towards such a programme. Al

sharif (2016) aimed to investigate the attitudes of Shaqra University students towards e-

learning. The study sample consisted of 366 students, enrolled in undergraduate programs.

For the sake of achieving the objectives of the study, the researcher used a descriptive

analytical method, as well as using a scale to measure the trend of e-learning consisted of 28

phrases. The study resulted in the followings: 1) The students' attitudes toward e-learning

were positive. 2) There are no statistically significant differences in the students' responses

to learning depending on the specialization variable (i.e., scientific or literary). 3) There are

statistically significant differences in favor of females at the level of 5% in the student’s

responses to e-learning in terms of gender (i.e., male or female). The researcher

recommended the need to set training sessions for faculty members in the field of web

design courses, as well as the necessity of activating e-learning technologies in teaching

undergraduate courses.

Online Learning via Microsoft Teams during the Covid-19 Pandemic as Perceived by

Kuwaiti EFL Learners

COVID-19 pandemic made a sudden shift of all ages to online learning and distance

learning instructions. However, there is a paucity of research to address the possible impacts

Pg
YOUNG ACHIEVERS’ SCHOOL OF CALOOCAN INC.
7 Ramos Compound, Bagumbong Caloocan City

of the pedagogical shift integrated into new online platforms on learning, interaction, and

assessment, especially in higher education settings from the vantage point of EFL students.

Framed in a descriptive quantitative study, the main objective of this study includes two

folds: a) to identify the possible effects of online learning via Microsoft TEAMS platform

during the COVID-19 pandemic on assessment, interaction, and learning English as a

foreign language from EFL students' perception and b) to reveal the possible significant

correlation between learning, interaction and online assessment via Microsoft TEAMs. Data

were collected using a developed questionnaire consisting of 30 items focusing on three

dimensions: interaction, learning, and assessment among 440 EFL students whose major

was English at the College of Basic Education in Kuwait. At the significance level of 0.01,

the results revealed the effect of online learning via Microsoft TEAMS during the COVID-

19 pandemic on learning of English skills, students' interaction and achievement assessment

as perceived by the EFL students in the English Language Department in the CBE was

rather high, moderate and moderate and moderate respectively. There is a strong/high

statistically significant correlation between Interaction and Assessing (r = 0.538), interaction

and Learning (r = 0.747). There is a statistically significant moderate correlation between

Assessing and Learning (r = 0.467). This study is of some pedagogical and assessment

ramifications for EFL contexts in the pandemic era.

Microsoft teams for education: Why it fails

Microsoft Teams is a popular chat-based collaboration and communication tool. It's been

commonly used by organizations to interact, and file important information that share in

today's basis. Mostly used and meant for businesses, Microsoft also has an education version

for classroom managements, live online classes, and for e-learning. But as a tool for

education, for schools, high schools, and colleges, or training of employees in an office.

Microsoft still has a lot of holes to fix. Requires Continuous Internet Connectivity Teams

cannot work without constant Internet connectivity. Any issues in connectivity during an on-

going presentation or meeting can cause users to miss out what is being said. Confusing File

Structure Teams cannot work without constant Internet connectivity. Any issues in

connectivity during an on-going presentation or meeting can cause users to miss out what is

being said. Complex outlook transition Microsoft Outlook is commonly used by all

organizations and most employees might be used to the email platform. This makes

transition to Microsoft Teams a bit difficult. The best way is for all team members to focus

entirely on Microsoft Teams and leave out Outlook. But, at the same time, abandoning

Outlook altogether and using only Microsoft Teams is not wise either. Office 365 still

depends on Outlook for many other functions. For example, while writing, Teams does not

support Group calendars. Also, it is not possible to send links to Word documents through

Pg
YOUNG ACHIEVERS’ SCHOOL OF CALOOCAN INC.
7 Ramos Compound, Bagumbong Caloocan City

Teams chat. During such instances, email seems to be the better option. Channel Limit in

Microsoft Teams, the number of channels you can be a part of is limited. A person can be

part of only 200 public channels and 30 private channels. Though it seems enough in most

scenarios, it can be a limitation if you want to be part of a few more channels. Competition

Microsoft Teams is too crowded with many tools having similar or overlapping features.

This confuses the users, making it difficult for them to choose the right White Labelling All

features of Microsoft Teams were not developed by the company itself. There are some

features that have been bought from lesser known brands and were rebranded by Microsoft.

White labelling is legal. But, it is disadvantageous to the lesser known brands that actually

developed those features, since they will never be given credit.

Online Classes

Online education has become the norm considering the pandemic situation requires

everyone to remain at home. Organizations and educational institutes are relying on

collaboration tools, such as Microsoft Teams, to carry out their activities. Before, Microsoft

Teams was a collaboration tool meant solely for businesses. But with the introduction of

online classes, Microsoft came up with Microsoft Teams for Education. But, is Microsoft

Teams an effective tool for online learning? Maybe not the most reported issue about

Microsoft Teams during an online class is the technical problems. A large part of this

problem is due to poor network connectivity, which can interrupt the smooth running of

classes. In January, students in Scotland had reported issues regarding Microsoft Teams. The

Pg
YOUNG ACHIEVERS’ SCHOOL OF CALOOCAN INC.
7 Ramos Compound, Bagumbong Caloocan City

students were not being able to use the “Join” button to join their online classes. There were

also reports of services and chat functions being delayed. Similar issues with Microsoft

Teams were reported in other countries as well.

The Challenges of E-learning Through Microsoft Teams for EFL Students at Van

Lang University in COVID-19

E-learning, which is gradually becoming popular all over the world, is broadly used in

higher education. Tamm (2019) found that e-learning means the learners use products of

technology to acquire knowledge. Rouse (2020) defined Microsoft Teams as software in the

Office 360 software suite. Its notable functions include file sharing, messaging, video

calling, and video conferences. In previous research papers, there have been topics related to

online learning in COVID-19. Still, there may be no topic related to a specific software like

Microsoft Teams, so the study will focus only on analysing the difficulties of EFL students

at Van Lang University. At the same time, they take an online course via Microsoft Teams

in COVID-19. Both quantitative and qualitative methods do the research for 144 EFL

students in Van Lang University to find the answer to the problems. One of the most

interesting things about the research is the study being done after the outbreak of corona

disease; therefore, all the survey participants had to study online. To sum up, this paper is

suggested that identifying these challenges may help English teachers and instructors in

well-designing teaching methods. That is the reason why they will have a right look at the

Pg
YOUNG ACHIEVERS’ SCHOOL OF CALOOCAN INC.
7 Ramos Compound, Bagumbong Caloocan City

roles of e-learning, so the result of the research is something worth looking forward to.

Effectiveness of Microsoft Teams: A study of Perception among tertiary learners

The pandemic's emergence has left a trail of destruction and problems in every aspect of

people's lives. There has been a dramatic transition in education from in-person classes to

online learning. The schools employed a variety of Learning Management Systems (LMS).

One of them is Microsoft Teams. The aim of this study was to investigate and ascertain the

opinions of Western Mindanao State University undergraduates on the use of Microsoft

Teams. Microsoft Teams effectiveness has been the subject of numerous studies, but the

earlier ones seem to have lacked sufficient participants. The present survey included 419

respondents in total. The data in this study were coded and analysed using one-way

ANOVA, descriptive statistics, and independent-samples T-test. In terms of effectiveness,

Microsoft Teams was scored as "Average" when compared to other online learning

platforms, and respondents said its features were practical, straightforward, and simple to

use. However, for Microsoft Teams to function properly, a faster internet connection is

required.

Students cannot deny that mathematics is one of the disciplines with which they have the

most difficulty. Mahanta (2019) claimed that learning mathematics requires effort and is not

something that can be picked up quickly and readily. Even yet, it is one of the most

important things to study even though it might be challenging to understand. Gafoor and

Kurukkan (2015) claim that learning math makes many students feel bad, thus it's the

teacher's responsibility to come up with a plan to help the students approach math with a

positive attitude. Teachers should devise a plan in this situation to help the kids comprehend

mathematics better. Additionally, pupils should be interested in and actively participate in

the subject of mathematics in every class meeting.

The Challenges of Modular Learning in the Wake of COVID-19: A Digital Divide in

the Philippine Countryside Revealed

The goal of this study was to evaluate the Pangasinan State University Lingayen Campus's

initial adoption of the flexible learning methodology during the 2020–2021 academic years.

It looked into the problems and difficulties that teachers and students had when using

Pg
YOUNG ACHIEVERS’ SCHOOL OF CALOOCAN INC.
7 Ramos Compound, Bagumbong Caloocan City

flexible education. The results showed that the biggest obstacles to online learning for both

faculty and students appeared to be an unstable, weak, and poor internet connection and a

lack of comfortable teaching and learning spaces at home. These findings were based on

extracts from the responses of teachers (n=123) and students (6370) to the survey

questionnaire. The study also indicated that while PSU was quick to deploy an online

learning platform, some of the respondents' devices could not operate the app or at least

could not do so at a reasonable speed. Least run its full features, and which led to another

challenge found on the difficulty to download teaching and learning resources using the

software. The researchers concluded that the PSU Lingayen Campus was prepared in aspects

under its control including provision of and orientation to online platforms, and plans to

provide printed guides, but have an understandable lacking on challenges met including

teaching and learning spaces, poor internet connection, and the capacity to purchase mobile

load as means of students to attend classes online. The researchers recommend periodic

assessment of the PSU’s policies for Flexible Learning to provide continued and improved

service delivery for both the faculty and students.

Online Teaching during Covid-19 Pandemic: The Philippine experience

As a result of the global Coronavirus-19 pandemic, schools were closed, and teachers

switched to online instruction. The study identified the experiences, difficulties, and

reactions of teachers who were engaged in online instruction. 194 teachers from senior high

Pg
YOUNG ACHIEVERS’ SCHOOL OF CALOOCAN INC.
7 Ramos Compound, Bagumbong Caloocan City

schools and colleges in Bacolod City, the Philippines, were given a survey using Microsoft

Teams. The results showed that the teachers experienced a support system through the

webinars offered, help from co-workers and housemates, and assistance given by parents to

their children. The level of the kids' learning as seen by the teachers, as well as their living

and working situations, technology used, and connectivity, were noted as problems. The

teachers' adaptability, level of satisfaction and work-life balance all demonstrated good

responses. Their preparedness for the restart tension experienced as a result of in-person

classes. Comparing teachers' stress levels by department and employment status revealed

that they had different levels of stress. When they were divided into groups based on

departments, their levels of satisfaction with the Microsoft Teams platform dramatically

varied. When teachers were compared based on their department, employment position, and

number of subject load preparations, no appreciable difference in their level of readiness for

the return of face-to-face sessions was found. The findings take into account how online

instruction affects both the teachers' and students' learning.
