Chapter 1: Introduction

School education plays a great role in everyone’s life. It is a tool that equips people

with knowledge, skill, technique, and information and enables them to understand their

responsibilities to their families, communities, and country. But people cannot deny the

fact that students like senior high students and colleges, with a high responsibility in terms

of education are constantly facing ever-changing challenges in their everyday lives in terms

of it. They need proper materials or any devices that can help them in the world of

education. They need something to guide them from their projects, activities, thesis,

programs, forms, studies, professions, and more. According to Harris (2016),“Today’s

educators are under great pressure to provide 21st century students with a quality education

based on 21st century standards. Those standards include providing students with the

technological and informational skills needed to compete in an ever-changing, technology-

driven world.”

That is why the Free Microsoft account or the Free Microsoft 365 office exists.

Students and educators at eligible institutions can sign up for Office 365 Education for free,

including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and now Microsoft Teams, plus additional

classroom tools. According to Klopfer, et al. (2009), “Every day, many students are

spending countless hours immersed in popular technologies—such as Facebook, Myspace,

World of Warcraft, or Sim City”. In today’s classroom, technology is becoming a more

1
YOUNG ACHIEVERS’ SCHOOL OF CALOOCAN INC.
7 Ramos Compound, Bagumbong Caloocan City

prominent form of learning. In relation to, free Microsoft 365 is part of the technology,

which students use in their learnings.

For students, a free Office 365 subscription is a great option because it enables them

to work together on well-known web applications like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. In a

single, cost-effective solution that is specifically designed for education, it also gives

teachers the ability to unleash creativity, encourage teamwork, and offer a straightforward,

safe experience. The most popular set of office tools is Microsoft Office. It comes with

several tools, such as a word processor, spreadsheet program, and presentation program.

You can be qualified for a complimentary Microsoft 365 membership if you work as a

school administrator, teacher, or student. For students on a tight budget, especially those

who can not or do not want to pay the full price for the Office Suite, the Microsoft Office

student bundle is an excellent option.

Therefore, the reason why the researchers conducted this study, is to discover and

to know the contributions or importance of a free Microsoft account to certain students.

The positive impact or effectiveness of a free Microsoft account will be the focus and

should be emphasized through this study. The purpose of the study is to give credit to this

kind of application because it has been a big help in the world of education. This study is

intended to educate and give information to those students who are having a hard time with

their studies, to make their learning experiences easier. And to the educators who need a

companion at work to make their work lighter. The findings from this study will contribute

Chapter 2: Review of Related Literature

This chapter presents the related literature and studies after the thorough and in-depth search

done by the researchers. It focuses on several aspects that will help in the development of this

study. The study is generally concentrating on the effective of free Microsoft account to the

Grade 12 GAS 2 of Young Achievers’ School of Caloocan Inc.

Foreign Literature

“In the pandemic context due to COVID-19, Microsoft 365 took on a prominent role as

the preferred tool of many schools. It offered powerful tools to promote learning,

collaboration, communication, and creating an environment safe reliable” (Escola et al, 2022

p.242). According to them, Microsoft 365 became one of the most useful tools for students

and teachers during or amidst the pandemic. Though non-face-to-face interaction or

communication is conducted, students are still able to experience classes and learn some

lessons or learning because of it.

Aires, Escola & Lopes (2021) conducted in their literature that “The Microsoft 365

encompasses a huge variety of applications, features, and possibilities, so it was and is a

powerful friend in distance learning and a unique solution for a combined learning experience,

accessible through mobile communications, mobile phone, tablet or computer” (para 2). They

explained that Microsoft 365 has a lot of applications that are accessible and powerful to use,

8
YOUNG ACHIEVERS’ SCHOOL OF CALOOCAN INC.
7 Ramos Compound, Bagumbong Caloocan City

during students and teachers distance interactions. Which this features can be use to any

available gadgets or materials like everyday phones, tablet, computer and more.

“Teachers can post assignments to individuals, small groups, or the full class using the

assignment function in Teams” (Allison & Hudson, 2020; Pretorius, 2018). They explained

that in their practice they could adjust assignments to everyone in their diverse classroom of

learning styles and academic abilities. In brief, the teachers can exploit features provided in

Microsoft Teams. The features include scheduling the meeting, sharing invitation links to the

students to join the meeting, conducting web conference, interacting in the web conference,

sharing files or documents, sharing screen or desktop, communicating in chatting box,

changing the role of participants to attendee or presenter, recording web conference, as well

as downloading the recording.

Foreign Studies

“Blended learning along with the face-to-face delivery of the content are more effective or

perhaps more beneficial than other models” (S. Mcdonald et al, 2020, p.3064) So the

researchers thinks that free microsoft account can actually helps on the students learning

experience in terms of delivery of the contents because the delivery of the contents thru

microsoft are fast.

“The online education pros are convenience, less expensive, technology, and etc.” (D.

kumar, 2010, p.2) Its true because online education doesn’t need commuting so it’s doesn’t

need travel cost also, and they can go to school whenever they want.

9
YOUNG ACHIEVERS’ SCHOOL OF CALOOCAN INC.
7 Ramos Compound, Bagumbong Caloocan City

“The average students in online learning conditions performed modestly better than those

receiving face-to-face instruction” (B.Means et al ,2013, p.2) The researches think its true

because some students performs better in online class than face-to-face class because in online

class you are in full focus in studying.

Local Literature

“The outbreak of the pandemic had resulted in numerous damages and issues in every part

of people’s life. In terms of education, there is a sudden shift from face-to-face classes to online

learning. Different types of learning management systems (LMS) were used by the schools.

Microsoft teams is one of it.” (Laquindanum, p. 30, 2022) He stated the purpose of this study

was to explore and determine the Microsoft 365 that the Microsoft is simple and easy to use.

However, it needs faster internet connection for the Microsoft teams to work well.

“Due to the pandemic, most state universities and collages in the Philippines had to shift to

educational delivery that is accessible everywhere with the use of technology. Several learning

management systems are available, and one of the new tools available was released by

Microsoft” (De Guzman et al.., p. 40, 2021) as stated to him the Microsoft 365 is useful tool

like Google forms used to collect responses. Google sheets was used to export the gathered data

for pivot analysis. Microsoft 365 it will help to student for free, including Word, Excel,

PowerPoint, OneNote, and now Microsoft Teams,

“Due to the restrictions imposed to stop the spread of COVID 19, most schools and

universities around the world have shifted from traditional face-to-face classes on the online

10
YOUNG ACHIEVERS’ SCHOOL OF CALOOCAN INC.
7 Ramos Compound, Bagumbong Caloocan City

learning modality. Consequently, online learning and other related concepts became prominent

topics to study during the pandemic. Yet, there is a scarcity of research regarding Microsoft

Teams as a learning platform” (Francisco, p.16,2022) According to him Microsoft teams is one

of better learning outcomes for students and transform classroom time, leaving teachers more

time to engage with students.

Local Studies

“The advantages of using online learning in medical education include improved

accessibility of information, ease of standardizing and updating content, cost-effectiveness,

accountability, and enhancement of the learning process, wherein students are motivated to be

active learners.” (Chen BY, et al., 2019 p12). High-quality health professions education can be

accessed anywhere thanks to online curricular. By standardizing curriculum resources and

individualized curriculum experiences, they can improve teaching and learning. Many medical

educators lack a framework for online curriculum development, despite increased institutional

interest in and demand for online curricular for medical education.

“Online learning can provide students with foundational knowledge and confidence before

exposure to real or standardized patients. “(Ellman MS, Schwartz ML., 2016 p13). Online

learning resources are becoming more frequently included into basic and clinical science

curricular by undergraduate medical instructors. The variety of online learning resources and

the variety of ways in which they can be used for in-person and classroom instruction. The

presentation of core knowledge as part of the “flipped classroom” methodology, the

11
YOUNG ACHIEVERS’ SCHOOL OF CALOOCAN INC.

representation of a typical physical examination findings, and increased clinical communication

skills are highlighted as particular benefits of these tools.

“Many students even think that the quality of education has diminished because they spend th

e most of their time studying alone, without much assistance from their professors, due of the

current setup for distance learning.” (L. Giray et al, p.20, 2022) Its true because some of the

students doesn’t want to study alone because they get bored easily and that is why they are

getting low academic performance.

Chapter 3: Research Design and Methodology

Research Design

Descriptive research design is used in this research as the researchers only studying

the background and definition of "Free Microsoft" and "Learning Experience" which are

the Independent and dependent variable of this research. In other words, the researchers

are only measuring the two. Under the descriptive research design, the group uses cross-

sectional method to further study the relationship of the two variables as it focuses the

correlation of independent and dependent variable.

Sampling Procedure

The way in which the researchers selected a sample of individuals to be the research

participants in our survey was through simple random sampling. Simple random sampling

is a type of probability sampling in which the researcher randomly selects a subset of

participants from a population. In our case, since the respondents are from Grade 12 GAS

students and there are 2 sections in this strand, the researchers randomly selected 25

students per section for the total of 50.

Participants of the Study

13
YOUNG ACHIEVERS’ SCHOOL OF CALOOCAN INC.
7 Ramos Compound, Bagumbong Caloocan City

The respondents of the study are composed of students in grade 12 Gas students of

Young Achiever's School of Caloocan Inc. Twenty-five students from Gas 1 and 2 were

selected as responses. The researchers selected the students since they were appropriate

and relevant to the study.

Data Gathering Procedure

A letter of request to conduct the study was prepared. The researchers asked for

permission and the signature of the Grade 12 coordinator, Mr. Alfredo Moran, and their

research teacher, Ms. Jenny Grace Ellarte, to conduct a survey. The researchers created a

questionnaire checklist, validated by the Teacher and then the final questionnaire was

distributed. They stated the importance of their research to the respondents and requested

to answer their survey honestly and accurately. They clarify some terms to the respondents

so that they can answer the questionnaire with full knowledge of their responsibility as the

subject of the study. After the respondents answered the questionnaires, the researcher

collected and tailed the data for interpretation. And based on the data, they come up with

the conclusion recommendations for this study.

Research Instrument

The instrument used to collect data was the survey questionnaire. It offers a fast,

and efficient means of gathering large amounts of information from sizeable sample

14
YOUNG ACHIEVERS’ SCHOOL OF CALOOCAN INC.
7 Ramos Compound, Bagumbong Caloocan City

volumes. Besides the respondents are Senior High School Students, they could read and

answer the questionnaire with ease.

Part I of the research instrument is consist of demographics. Respondents need to

put their name, grade, section and strand. Part 2 of our survey is close-ended questions that

are answerable by agree, strongly agree, neutral, disagree and strongly disagree. This will

be the basis to determine the effectiveness of the Microsoft in his/her learning experience.

The copies of the questionnaires were distributed personally by the researcher to the

respondents.

Statistical treatment

The statistical treatment that the researchers use are mean median mode,

Percentage, and Weighted mean

I.

Mean

Is the sum of all values divided by the total number of values

∑𝑥
𝑚=

Σ x sum of all data points

N= number of data point

Median

Arranging the data points from smallest to largest.

Mode

The mode is one of the main measurements of the central tendency of a sample or

a population. The mode is particularly important in social research because it is the only

measure of central tendency that is relevant for any data set.

II.

Percentage

A data presentation that indicates the proportion of observations for each data point

or set of data points is known as a percentage frequency distribution. When representing

the relative frequency of survey replies and other data, it is a particularly helpful technique.

𝑓
𝑃= 𝑥100
𝑁

Where:

P= Percentage

f= Frequency

N= Number of Respondents

III.

Weighted Mean

The weighted mean equation is a statistical technique that determines the average

by summing the weights' individual means. Weights are used in this particular sort of

averaging to assess the relative relevance of each observation.

Weighted mean = 𝚺𝐰𝐱/𝚺𝐰

Σ = summation (in other words…add them up!).

w = the weights.

x = the value.

IV.

Likert Scale

A psychometric scale called a Likert scale is frequently used in studies that use

questionnaires. Although there are different forms of rating scales, it is the most generally

used method of sizing replies in survey research, leading to frequent use of the term as a

synonym for rating scale.
