Re: Introduction of new X-ray tube types for generators of the PHILIPS CP-family

The X-ray tubes SRO 25 51 *) and SRO 33 102 will be introduced for the operation by
generators of the PHILIPS CP-family (it means CP for converter processing).

These new X-ray tubes are comparable to the SUPER ROTALIX X-ray tubes SRO 25 50
respectively SRO 33 100 but minor differences.

The hard- and software programming, ali adjustments, the adaption and the break-in
procedure are carried out this, as it were a SRO 25 50 respectively SRO 33 100.

Some differences are result from the different composition of the anode disk, these are:
The starting time of the rotating anode can be up to 20% longer. The tolerance of measured
values by generator are specified such way, rotating anode has no problems during starting
time (acceleration).

Waiting time predicated by the cooling curves or by the tube protection of insert of the X-ray
tube assembly. Normally it gives a sufficient protection of the insert (tube).

Only for one special combination of application technique, serial runs or Tomography followed
after a time interval less than 15 minutes by Single Exposure technique may cause abnormal
track erosion.

In that case a programming of 80 % of the nominal load for focal spot in single exposure
technique is recommended.

The programming of 80 % tube load is described in every generator manual entitled

Setti ng-to-work.

- OPERATING PANEL 2 x 6M with APRT
- OPERATING PANEL 2 x 6M without APRT
The operating panel can be accommodated in various desks or wall mounting frames:
- Standard desk "TABLETOP OP . DESK 2 x 6M"
This desk can be fixed to the wall after having been reversed through 180 0
• In this case the operating panel should
be displaced as required.
For fixing purposes use wall mounting panel 4512 103 69382. For possibilities and dimensions refer to AZ-4.

- System desks "OPERATING DESK 2x6M"

"OPERATING DESK 2x9M"
"OPERATING DESK 2x12M"
With the system desks the medium strap has been removed (2x6M) or shortened (2x9M) so that the operating block
can be accommodated.

- Wall mounting frames "WALL MOUNTING FRAME 3x6M" with wall installation housing 4512 102 7748.
"WALL MOUNTING FRAME 2x6M" with wall installation housing 45121039200.
The wall mounting frame 3x6M is indispensable for operating theaters where additional control modules have to be
accommodated.
The wall installing housings are required for the pre-installation work. They have to be ordered from the seNice
department.

4. Power supply
4.1. Type of power supply

A three-phase five-conductor system is needed. The

three-phase system must be balanced, i.e. the external
conductor voltages against earth must be about equal, see
sketch.
For reasons of operational safety and compliance with
international rules, operation on three-phase mains that
are floating or unbalanced to earth (e.g. with one phase
earthed instead of the neutral point) is impermissible unless
adequate adaptation measures have been taken!
Check that the sequence of phases in the wall juncton box
is correct corresponding to the designations L 1, L2, L3. MAINS X-RAY INSTALLATION
059K93

4.2. Calculating the mains resistances

In the sketch below Ra designates the mains resistance on the distributor transformer. All further resistances up to the
wall junction box are added to it.
- R1 is dependent upon the length of lead 11 between distributor transformer and main distributor and upon the cross
section selected, so:
R1 =11 X Rcu Rcu from table

- R2 is estimated to be 15 mQ
- EMERGENCY-OFF switch
4mQ}
- Earth-leakage circuit breaker 5.5 mQ 15 m Q
- Fuse 5.5 m Q

- R3 dependent upon the length of lead 13 between main distributor and wall junction box and upon the cross section
selected; so:
R3 = 13 X Rcu Rcu from table

If possible, the sum of Ra, R 1, R2 and R3 should be smaller

than the RXG required.
Note that the cross section of lead 13 must not exceed
25mm 2 .
When connected to the 16 mm 2 terminals of the wall
junction box, leads with cross sections of up to 25 mm 2
connected without ferrules must not consist of more than
19 wires.

5. EMERGENCY-OFF device
An emergency-off device is mandatory in Germany according to VDE 0100 g or DIN 57113/VDE 0113 for newly installed
- units with electric drives in X-ray, examination and treatment rooms
- technique or switching rooms which are separated from the examination or treatment rooms and are not provided with
a generator control desk.
The EMERGENCY-OFF device is to be provided when the pre-installed mains connection are established.
For further details refer to ATAID - Q4.
• Existing EMERGENCY-OFF device.
An existing emergency-off device, which works via an additional system contactor connected in front of the generator,
can be used for the installation to be set up.
• EMERGENCY-OFF device to be provided.
In this case an additional system contactor should not be provided. All EMERGENCY-OFF switches should much
rather be connected in series during pre-installation work and should be connected in the "OFF" circuit of the generator.

8. Warming-up procedure for BUS version

In case the generator has been out of operation for some time, implement a warming-up procedure to avoid any
moisturizing of the generator components during operation with a patient.

Case 1:
X-ray BUS continually at about 10 ·e:
• Switch the generator on
• Press button "warm up" to select the 3rd exam./aux. unit
• The initial data set 81 kV, 400 mA, 100 ms, large focus (as programmed according to section C) is displayed
• Release 10 exposures one after the other.

Case 2:
When the generator is out of operation the temperature of the generator components is determined by the ambient
temperature.

For reaching the required operating temperature of the generator components refer to the table below:

Initial temperature warming-up period additional waiting

with 5 Kelvin/hour time from +20 • e
until a room onwards until an
temperature of operating temperature
+20 • e is reached of +10·e is reached

1. Unpacking and transport

• Remove the wooden covering. While handling the HV
generator keep it horizontal.
• After having finished work bring cables and wiring on the
central electronic system back into their initial position to
avoid interferences.

1.1. Open the breather screw at the H.V.

generator
• Turn the screw about 3 times counter-clockwise.

1.2. Check the oil level in the H.V.

generator
Required if oil leakage must be suspected because deaerating hole
surfaces or packing materials are strongly soiled with oil.
Watch that no foreign matter falls into the oil! Otherwise the
transformer must be exchanged!
• Check the oil level, tolerance ±2 mm.
For correction of the oil level order:
Shell Diala G - code No. 4512 14843172 oil container
with 2.5 I from the Service Center Hamburg.
• Turn the screw in again.
142H97

1.3. Installing the high-tension generator

into the 19" cabinet
• Displace the 4 fixing angles at the bottom of the
high-tension generator such that the fixing brackets
which protruded before come to be underneath the
bottom.
The fixing angles must under no circumstances be
omitted since they will be used for installing the
high-tension generator electrically insulated in the
cabinet.
• Introduce the 2 transport bars supplied through the
brackets at the top of the high-tension generator.
• Lift the high-tension generator into the cabinet
(2 persons).
When dOing so, take care not to damage the rubber
insulating material at the bottom of the cabinet.
• Check after completion of installation work:
The housing of high-tension generator and the cabinet
must not electrically be connected!

10. Program service mode ADAP

Part of the program settings specific for each customer as well as setting-to-work is implemented in the service mode
ADAP, This function is retained while switching the generator on or off,
o Program service mode ADAP:
Actuate keys 0]--[9]--@], the display reads "ADAP".

• Leave service mode ADAP:

Actuate keys 0] -- [9] --@] .

The following work can be carried out in the service mode ADAP only:
- Adaptation of the tube,
- Exam.!aux. unit preferred.
- Initial data set.
- Modification of step table.
- Photomultiplier, program setting.
- 1.1. format reduction.
- Tomo/Bucky remote control.
- APRT with automatic input of tomographic times.
- Work without high tension.
- Simulation pulmo DIAGNOST 100.
- Time post-indication.

11. Adaptation of tubes

The firmware of the generator contains the typical characteristic data of compatible tubes. During adaptation the tube
connected is compared with the typical characteristic by means of three specific operating points and correction values
FC. IC and UC are determined for the small and the large focus.
Explanation:
FC - filament correction value; determined at about 80 kV/30 mA.
IC - tube current correction value; determined at about 100 kV/1 max. (rated tube load)
UC - high-voltage correction value; determined at about 40 kV/1 max.
The correction values are between 0 and 255 bits.
The desired value is 127.
In case there are problems when adapting older tubes or after an exchange of tubes, correction values FC, UC, IC must
first be set to about 127 in the manual mode (steps 5 ... 7).
Only then automatic adaptation can be started.
For radiation protection reasons release must be carried out via the hand switch on the operating desk.

When the tube emission is too low, the specified range of the automatic mode is not sufficient for this tube. Service button 8
does not grow dark, the tube current display remains constant and correction value UC rises. The tube filament current
limit is reached.
In this case the tube must be manually adapted with a lower tube current.
The instructions below refer to correction value UC which is the one that varies most.
Correction values FC and IC can be determined by using the same procedure but by setting the associated kV and mA
values.

(1) Switch the power OFF/ON or carry out a CPU reset.

(2) Select the respective focus.
(3) Select the UC operating point: 40 kV, 100 ms and the maximum emission current.
(4) Switch an exposure and measure the mAs at the mAs socket of the high-tension generator with an mAs meter.

(5) In case the value measure deviates by more than 1 mAs from the value displayed on the desk (mA x s =mAs),
select the manual adaptation mode with []] -llil:

I Fie I I I GJJ
[IIJ tEE] I Ix Ix Ix I
428J92

Correction values FC, IC and UC are displayed.

(6) Change correction value UC by one step with the ms +/- buttons.
Measuring value too high -> change with the + button.
Measuring value too low -> change with the - button.
(7) Press button 3 to leave the manual adaptation mode.
(8) Repeat steps (3) to (8) so many times until the deviation between the mAs value measured and displayed is :51.
Then the adaptation of the respective focus is complete.
(9) Select mode []] - [9J .
Note the value displayed.
(10) Press button 3 to leave mode []] - [9J.
(11) Proceed to carry out the adaptation in automatic mode []] -lli.l.
Press button 8 to select the next step of the adaptation procedure.

1. eld Acceptance Test Exposure Parameters

CP generators are factory-calibrated and checked for compliance with the
parameter readout tolerances as stated in the relevant Operator's Manuals.
Provided these generators are installed and set to work in accordance with
the Inst~lation Manuals only the following limited field compliance testing
i s requi red.

1.1. Test equipment

- Keithley voltage divider model No. 35080 with filter packs 32867C, 5C,
9C, or equivalent.
Oscilloscope ( orage)
Digital mA, mAs meter.
Notes
1) Do not start test until generator has been switched on for at least
one hour.
2) Direct (invasive) kVp measurements on CP generators with HV divider
tanks normally available to the field service organization are not
permi tted.

1.2. Setup
1.2.1. Switch off generator and also switch off main disconnect breaker
to system.
1.2.2. Connect digital mA meter as per instructions in the relevant
Servi ce Manual.
1.2.3. Set up the Keithley voltage divider complete with the appropriate
filter as per Keithley Instruction Manual No. 3294 OIM.
1.2.4. Connect the oscilloscope to the Keithley divider.

Note: Make sure that the oscilloscope has been calibrated with the aid of
------ the Keithley divider as described in the Keithley Instruction
Manual before starting any testing (par. 3.6. Internal calibration).
1.2.5. Calculate rejAction limits based on the exposure parameter
"Specification Limits" shown in the table below.
The "Specification Limitsll are based on the actual tolerances as listed in
the generator Operator's Manuals. These IIS pec ification Limits" must be
restricted to include the actual measuring instrument error. See also
section 6 par. 3.1. of IIComprehensive Compliance Testing Manual
No. 4535 800 2034." regarding how to calculate rejection limits.

1. Replacement
1.1. H.V. generator
The H.V. generator is a traceable item and is therefore labelled as follows:
- type number
- serial number
- manufacturer
- code number (separate label)

H.V. generators ordered via service logistics have a serial number which has the following meaning:

Example:

5 - 6 - 0177 I 96

Meaning:
Year of manufacture power class consecutive number / year of repair
1995 6= 65 kW / 1996

The replacement tank includes a second type label. This must be affixed to the label holder on the generator
cabinet. See drawing B2-1 Labelling.

The new type number, code number and serial number must be entered on the master card for the generator.

1.2. Operating panel

Control desks supplied via service logistics have the following labelling:
- type number
- serial number (blank space)
- code number (separate label)

The space for the serial number is blank. Here the serial number of the generator must be entered by hand.

The new type and code numbers must be entered on the master card for the generator.

2.1. Standby state

The condition of the signals FLON/ and PRON/ (SA) being high characterizes t
ilstandby" state.
+5VREF and FILNV d up to the signal FILRF (58). The veo (7B) oscillates with
a frequency ined by an I-element for the rising edge and a PI controller
AIO-A ( ) for trailing edge.
VCO pulses are i the filament circuit converter 1 (7B) wh i ch
provides for pulse di ibution.
Firing the is effected via a converter control, power
tr ans i stors (V and ignition transformers (Tl~ ).
A filament tran T3 (8B) takes the actual value from the filament
circuit to a voltage transformer A8-A (5B),
The signal proceeds to the zero passage recognition (58) and the RMS module
(5B) •

The RMS modul e creates the rms val ue '" instantaneous actual fil arnent val ue
(FILAV).
The signal FILAV is passed on to PI controller AIO-A (6B) and to the CPU.
The comparators FIMIN and FIMAX (6 A/B) check the efficiency of the regulating
circuit. If predetermined 1 imit values are exceeded the condition "ready for
exposur is cancelled.
Short-time deviations are tolerated .
• FIMAX A7 (6A)
If limit values are exceeded
veo is stopped by 010-0, the CPU cancels "ready for exposure!!.
• FIMIN A6-B (68)
If values are below the lower limit
The I-portion is bypassed by the PI controller (AIO-A) and the P-component
is produced.
The new start turns to be a soft start.
In the case of high +/- deviations from the setpoint the RDYFIL/ signal (7A)
turns to be high and so "ready for exposure" is cancelled.
