1) The 2-kg collar is released from rest at A and slides down the inclined fixed rod in the vertical plane.
The coefficient of kinetic friction is 0.4. Calculate (a) the velocity v of the collar as it strikes the
spring and (b) the maximum deflection x of the spring.

2) A 3-kg slider is released from rest at position 1 and slides with negligible friction in vertical plane
along the circular rod. Determine the velocity of the slider as it passes position 2. The spring has
un-stretched length of 0.6m.

3) The horizontal platform is rotating with a constant angular velocity of =5 rad/s. Two identical
blocks, each with a mass of 2 kg are held in the smooth slot within the platform by a pair
of springs each with a stiffness of k=250 N/m. If the unstretched length of each spring is
0.18 m, what should angle be for steady state position? Springs are attached to the platform at
point A. (Consider only one block for the solution of the problem.)
4) A Porsche travelling at a constant velocity of 32 m/s passes a Mini parked on the side of the
road. When the Porsche is 50 m ahead, the Mini starts accelerating uniformly at 3.5 m/s2.

(1) When will the Mini catch up to the Porsche ?

(2) How fast is the Mini travelling when it reaches the Porsche ?
