WHAT IS DESIGN THINKING

 Umbrella Term
 describe a problem-solving approach that begins with understanding people and ends wit a
solution that's really tailored to them
 human-centered design
 user-experience design (ux design)

DESIGN THINKING PROCESS
1. Understand people (who are them? What they want? Create personnas)
2. Envision ways to help them meet their goals (how can we help them meet their goals?)
3. prototype the solution that you think best meets their goal (does it work? Create storyboards)
4.
UNDERSTANDING USERS
Ask open-ended questions
Common behaviours?
Create personnas (hypothetical)

RESEARCH OBJECTIVES
1. what do you want to learn (focus)
2. decide who to interview (consider a list of people who you should interview)
3. Ask the right questions (open-ended questions, how do you..?, what, why, can you..?, encourage
storytelling)
4. Create your interview guide (organise questions,
 Personal connection -> stories on experience -> follow-up questions -> summary question

FINDING THE RIGHT PEOPLE

 existing customers
 use personal network
 hire a recruiting firm
 place ads
 man-on-the-street interviews

IDEATION
 More, faster! (quantity)
 Generate, don't evaluate
 anything is possible.
 Yes,and.. (build on ideas)

PERSONNA
 Review notes
 Look for patterns (simple sentences)
 View the problem with the eyes of the user

IDEATION PROMPTS
 Positive framing
 Solution-agnostic
 Not too broad
 Not too narrow
'what-if questions'

STORYBOARDING
 Key actors
 Environmental factors
 Challenges

STORY COMPONENTS
 Original life condition (problem)
 Transformation (series of events)
 Improved future (idea working)
PROTOTYPE
 A test
 Fast, cheap
 Get out of your head
 İmprove your solution
 Write a scenario
 Storyboard (easy to relate, keep persona at center)

GETTING USER FEEDBACK

 Frame convers.
 Background info
 Ask them to think out loud
 What are you thnking
 Take notes
