César J. Montenegro Chinchay:

Miguel Grau Seminario

For this task, I decided to talk about the hero Miguel Grau Seminario, known as

the “Knight of the seas”. He was a brave and renowned military sailor and

political from Perú, who fought in the War of the Pacific. Grau was born on July

27th, 1839 in the port of Paita in Piura. During the war with Chile, he

commanded the Huascarán ship, won the battle of Iquique and gave to Perú an

advantage. Finally, he died on October 8th, 1879 defending our homeland in the

battle of Angamos at the age of 45.

Sergio Meléndez Vilela:

Ramon Castilla

Ramon Castilla was a Peruvian military and politician who was born on August

31, 1797 in the province of Tarapaca. During his military period he participated

in several wars in favor of the Peruvian territory against neighboring countries.

He was elected president in 1845 until 1851, during that time he ordered the

construction of the first railroad of the country that covered several provinces,

promulgated the law of the 8 daily hours of work and inaugurated the drinking

water in the city of Lima and other provinces. He died on May 30, 1867 in the

province of Tarapaca.
Marcelo Gaona Flores:

Santa Rosa de Lima

She was a Peruvian saint, who was born on 20 April, 1586 in the city of Lima.

One of her acts in life was the protection of the city of Lima from the Dutch

pirate Joris Spitberg. Another of his miracles was the healing of the sick with the

image of the Child Jesus. She led a life consecrated to God, but in her own

home. She died on 24 August 1617 of tuberculosis. Her feast day is celebrated

on 30 August every year. She is the patron saint of the National Police and

nurses.
