chinese pirates landed at the town of Parañaque and
attacked Intramuros.

- A mexican named Juan de Salcedo arrived with 300


ilocano warriors and defeated the chinese pirate.

- As a safeguard against similar uprisings later, the


chinese residents and the merchants of Manila were
confined to a seperate district called "Parian de
Alcaceria" (now it is Liwasang Bonifacio)

•exactly on July 4, 1946 the Philippines was granted independence, as
proclaimed to the world by US President Harry S. Truman in accordance with
Philippine independence A ct. (Most populary know as "Tyding's -Mcduffie Act").
President Harry S. Truman issued proclamation 2695 of July 4, 1946 officially
recognizing the indepence of the Philippines.
• Thereafter, the Philippines celebrated independence day on July 4 every year
for 15 years until it was moved to June 12 by Diosdado Macapagal.
•After the Spanish- American war on 1898 the City of Manila underwent “the
Golden Age,” and extensive revitalization efforts earned it the moniker “Pearl of
the Orient.”
• From the late 19th Century until shortly before the war, Manila was called the
“Paris of the East” and the “Pearl of the Orient.” Under the Spanish rule, the city
thrived as the gateway of European nations to their trading partners in Asia. At
some point, it was even called “The Most Beautiful City in the Far East,”
attracting European migrants, like Germans, Spaniards, Americans, British,
French, and Russians.

event.
-Almost 300,000 civilians were killed,
both deliberately by Japanese in the
Manila Massacre and from artillery and
aerial bombardment by Americans and
Japanese forces.
-Many architectural and cultural legacy
from the time the city was founded
were totally destroyed due to this
event.
