Introduction to the Bible

Reflection about the History of Creation (Reference Genesis 1:3)

Probably everyone has wondered many times- Who made the world? Who made people?
Why I am here? Who is God? Where is He? We are always intrigued with the theme of
origins which even Science cannot satisfy that curiosity, for it cannot deal with the
question of origin. That is beyond the scope of scientific method, which requires
observation and explanation.

Genesis 1:3 unfolds some of the most powerful and amazing stories of the entire old
testament. In these 3 chapters of scripture the stage is set for God’s redemptive love story
to be told over the remaining chapters.

God’s creation tells in the first 2 chapters of Genesis. The first verse of the bible, though
by divine inspiration, answers the human longing, “In the beginning God created heaven
and earth.” It is an affirmation that God made everything. God spoke the word and all
things in the universe came into being. Everything except for Humanity. We can only
understand God's ability to make something out of nothing is through FAITH. There was
an intimate happening when God created human. God created human in His image.
Nothing else in all of creation carries the privilege of being created in the image of the
Creator God. What separates us from the rest of all of creation is the image in which we
were made and the hands that we were made by. ‘’ So God created man in His own
image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them’ Genesis
1:27. Creation is a clear and compelling depiction of the undeniable and unconditional
love of God. At the end of creation week, God celebrates His wonderful work, God rested
on the seventh day and blessed it and sanctified it.

Chapter 3 of the Genesis explain the story of how man fall from the grace. Despite the
intimate love that the Lord God shared in His creation of us, we still screwed it up. More
accurately, Adam and Eve screwed it up. They ate the one forbidden fruit in the Garden
of Eve; the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. God took risk of giving our first
parents the gift of “free will” which simply meant they could choose to love God and obey
Him or not obey Him. Heaven knows why they even bothered to take the fruit of the
forbidden tree. I guess the fruit symbolizes of what was basically a choice to obey or not
to obey.

God expels Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden. In the midst of such dark and heavy
scene in our history, God’s love and grace still reach beyond the death sentence of our
sin. God were still very loving to them, as the bible says, He made cloths for them out of
animal skin. He also made a promise that He would continue to watch over them and care
for them. He would not withdraw His love from them and that love would still be
unconditional.

Above all these, what does God expect of His children? Since God is our Creator, our
Maker. He expects us that we obey and trust Him. He knows how we are made and what
the future will bring. He knows what is best for us at all times and under all circumstances,
so we can trust His love and wisdom.

He will accept us as His child and will protect and keep us if we are determine to seek
Him, by God’s help, to obey Him; for our verse says, “This is the whole duty of man.”
