rQuadratic Equations Project

Yara Franco 9th

Introduction:
In this project, my objective is to be able to solve quadratic equations in a clean and neat way, be able
to understand how Desmos works, and be able to use it easily since its confusing for me to use it, also
in improving my skills on identifying the different intercepts.

1. Use Desmos to write the graph.

a.

b. The x-intercepts are in the equation, that's why they are related.
(x – 2)(x + 4) = 0
X = 2 & x = -4

c. The y-intercept is on the expansion of the equation.

(x – 2)(x + 4) = 0
x2 + 2x – 8
Y-intercept: (0, -8)

d. (x – 2)(x + 4) = 0
Y = (x + 1)2 – 9
We can see how the minimum point shows in the answer.
Minimum Point: (-1, -9)
2. Repeat with y = (3 - x) (x - 7)

a.

b. X – intercepts: (3, 0) (7, 0)

c. Expanded Bracket: – x2 + 10x – 21.

Y-intercept: (0, -21)

d. Y = -(x - 5)2 + 4
Maximum Point: (5, 4)

3. Y = (x - 2) (x + 1)

4. Y = (1 - x) (x - 6)

5. Y = x2 + 2x – 3

6. Y = 5 – x2 + 4x

7. (x + 2)2 + 1
8. - (x - 3)2 – 2

9. y = x2 + 6x + 8

a. y-intercept: (0, 8)
b. x-intercepts: (0, -2) (0, -4)
c. Square form: Y = (x + 3)2 – 1
d. Minimum point: (-3, -1)
e. Graph:

10. y = x2 + 4x – 5

a. y-intercept: (0, -5)

b. x-intercepts: (0, 1) (0, -5)
c. Square form: Y = (x + 2)2 – 9
d. Minimum Point: (-2, -9)
e. Graph:
11. Y = 8 + 2x – x2

a. Y-intercept: (0, 8)
b. X-intercepts: (0, 4) (0, -2)
c. Square form: Y = -( x – 1 )2 + 9
d. Maximum Point: (1, 9)
e. Graph:

12. Y = -9 + 12x – 3x2

a. Y-intercept: (0, -9)

b. X-intercepts: (0, 1) (0, 3)
c. Square form: Y = - 3 (x – 1) (x – 3)
d. Maximum Point: (2, 3)

Conclusion:

Finally, in this project, I accomplished all my objectives, I got to understand better Desmos, and I'm
able now to identify the different parts of an equation, I feel better skilled on this topic thanks to this
project.
