What is Global Health?

• pertains to various health issues, concerns, and trends which go beyond national
boundaries and call for global initiatives for the protection and promotion of
people's’ health across the world.
• is an area for study, research and practice that prioritizes health improvement and
achieving impartiality in healthcare and wellness worldwide.

• The primary international body responsible for developing leadership in health,
setting norms and standards and providing health support among nations
around the world.
In 2000, the United Nations (UN) General Assembly laid out the Millennium
Development Goals (MDGs), an ambitious vision for global development with a
groundbreaking approach to collaborative international action.

Nonetheless, persistent challenges present during the MDG era remain


unresolved, and new challenges in the health landscape have since emerged. As a
result, in September 2015, the UN General Assembly adopted Resolution
A/RES/70/1, “Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable
Development” (2). The product of numerous consultations and deliberations, the
2030 Agenda is an aspirational plan of action for people, planet, prosperity, peace,
and partnership—the “five Ps” that shifts the world onto a sustainable and resilient
path for global development over the next 15 years. Through an equity-based
approach that emphasizes the needs and experiences of traditionally disadvantaged
groups, the Agenda has the potential to transform the public health landscape in the
Region of the Americas. By recognizing the interconnectedness of factors and
interventions that 7 influence human development outcomes, the 2030 Agenda and
its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outline a paradigm shift in policy-making,
prioritizing actions that target the complex and intersecting structural determinants
of social and economic development.

The SDGs contain just one explicitly health-oriented goal—SDG 3—out of a


total of 17 (Figure Above), in contrast to the MDGs, which have three out of eight.
However, many, if not all, of the SDGs include targets related to health, such as
poverty, hunger, education, access to sanitation, and exposure to physical violence.
While not explicitly included in SDG 3, these themes are among the most immediate
determinants of health and well-being. The shift in focus between the two sets of
global development goals represents a more nuanced understanding of the factors
that affect health, and lays the groundwork for action across different sectors whose
activities have significant effects on health but fall outside the purview of the health
sector. Governments, the private sector, and civil society will need to innovate and
adapt to meet the challenges laid out in the 2030 Agenda, which incorporates a
broader and more multifaceted vision for health and development than ever before.
A strong evidence base already exists to support this approach, and this chapter topic
will extend the effort by highlighting useful strategies, mechanisms, and major global
agreements to ensure that countries are prepared to achieve these global goals.
What is dance?

What is Street Dancing?


• -refers to dance styles that have evolved outside the dance studios. It is performed
in streets, dance parties, parks, school yards or in any available space. It is often
improvisational in nature, encouraging interaction and contact with spectators and
other dancers.

What is Hip-hop Dancing?


• -refers to street dance styles primarily performed to hip-hop music or that have
evolved as part of hip-hop culture
-music incorporates a number of iconic elements most notably DJing and rapping, beat
boxing, sampling and juggling beats
