TOPIC: FICTION

SUB-TOPIC: Types of fiction

ATTAINMENT TARGET: Students will be able to appreciate the difference between works
that are facts and imaginative.

OBJECTIVES:
(By the end of the lesson students should be able to)

1. List at least four types of fiction book after reading and discussion the handout

2. State in their own words the different elements of at least 3 types of fiction after viewing
PowerPoint.

3. Write their own type of fiction story from any of the category of fiction after the
PowerPoints presentation and class discussion

PRIOR LEARNING: Students where introduce to the elements of fiction.

RESOURCES: Books, worksheet and PowerPoint.

ENGAGEMENT :( Guided Discussion, Questioning and Visual presentation) Students will be


shown pictures of various characters which they will be asked to guess a word that represent the
pictures. The students will then be asked to state what they know about the word. Base on the
answer the teacher will follow up with a class discussion about the topic by asking the students
to come up with their own definition which the teacher will write on the board. Teacher will then
give her definition on the board and ask the student to compare.
EXPLORATION: Students will be shown a PowerPoint about the different types of fiction.
The teacher will engage the students in a class discussion about the topic. The students will be
asked the following question after the presentation.

1. What are the different types of fiction

2. How can identify these types of fiction

EXTENSION/ELABORATION: Students will be place in groups to assess the various types


of fiction using the five elements.

EVALUATION: the students will visit the fiction section and write two titles that falls under
the different types of fiction.

OUT OF CLASS ASSIGNMENT: Read a fiction to share with the class.

Answer to pictures- fairytale, myth folklore, fables, realistic, scientific, adventure, mystery…..

Myth

Myth can be acknowledged as fictitious narrative commonly entails supernatural persons,


actions, or events, and express some popular idea concerning natural or historical phenomena.
(Ersh, 2005).

Folklore Fiction

Folklore is the combination of traditional beliefs, customs, and and legends of the common
people in a given culture, often betoken in story form or poems (Ersh, 2005).

Fables

A Fable is fictitious story that relates to supernatural or extraordinary persons or incidents, and
is a legacy of popular belief, myth or legend. Usually fables have an recognizable moral to them
(a essesnce of wisdom you can take away from the story)(Ersh, 2005).
