Analysis & Teaching Points: Student used clues (such as pictures or text meaning) to help
correct errors. There were multiple self-corrections, and some sounding out (although better
accuracy could have been had with more). Errors were mostly meaning based, and visual
strategies were used to recognize some errors and fix them. Teaching points should include
decoding strategies & re-reading to ensure that even if the meaning matches visual.

Analysis & Teaching Points: Student did an excellent job self-correcting. They used the
meaning of the sentence to notice when they made an error, and go back and fix it. Most of the
errors that were not fixed were caused by visual means, while most of the self-corrected errors
were mistakes in meaning that the student caught when the words didn’t match up. There were
little structural cues contributing to errors or self-correcting. Teaching points would include
better decoding and word chunking understanding; a focus on phenology would likely help this
student problem solve difficult words.
