Methodology for Computing the CEI:

It involves following four stages:


 Data capturing
 Computing the CEI
 Analysis and Cross correlation
 Sharing the inferences

Data Capturing:
 Identified the parameters required for measuring the effectiveness of the communication across the 3
dimensions.
 Build the questionnaire to cover all those parameter and provided the weightage for each parameters
(Refer the section below for sample questionnaire and parameters)
 Initiate the survey to get the feed back or response taken from different level in the organization like
Department level, Senior management, Managers, Team member level.

Computing the CEI:


 Used MS share-portal for rolling out the survey.
 Used the tool developed internally to transform the survey data and arrange them based on the categories.
 Automatically computed the weighted average for each parameter under Effectiveness, Openness and
Timeliness dimension. Weighted average computed at all pre-identified levels like overall, team level,
Manager Level, Stake holder level.
 Used this consolidated data for analysis.

Analysis and Cross correlation


 Perception Gap Analysis: Perception gap is analysed at different level like gap between Manager and
team member, Senior Management and team. This data gives the inference how much the communicated
information are peculated from top to bottom and from bottom to top. Root cause analysis of this
provides the details on communication bottle neck which can be removed by taking the appropriate action.
This gives the information about the level of understanding of field persons issues by the management.
By analyzing the gaps, possible to identify the areas where there is good sync up between the groups and
where it needs to be improved.
 Deviation from Bench mark: Data provides the current status of the communication effectiveness level.
Model provides option to compare current state with reference future state/bench marked level. It helps to
identify the opportunities optimization for enhancing the communication effectiveness. Deviation from
the bench marked data is used for measuring the effectiveness of communication index.
 Trend Analysis: Helps to analyze how overall team contributed for the effectiveness. How each individual
contributed for effectiveness. It helps to retrospect to take corrective action at different level.
 Correlate perception gap and deviation from bench mark: (Info is already available in the document
shared with Jim)

Reference value or bench mark value can be consider looking into many constraints like team size, location, and
distributed team, mixed culture in the team.
