NCLEX-RN® PREP PROCESS STUDY PLAN FOR

YOUR KAPLAN NCLEX-RN PREPARATION

Welcome to Kaplan NCLEX Prep! This is the recommended study plan for utilizing the robust
Kaplan NCLEX Prep resources. These resources are designed to give you plenty of realistic practice
for success on NCLEX Test Day. As you begin your preparation, please keep in mind that preparing
for the NCLEX is a marathon, not a sprint! It is important not to rush your studies, but it’s also
important not to procrastinate.

Remediation and reflection are the keys to your NCLEX success.

Your school may designate a Kaplan Test, the Diagnostic,

or another predictor exam. The test will help to analyze your
strengths and weaknesses as you prepare for the NCLEX
exam. Upon completion, look at your Diagnostic report to
see if any of the “Client Need Category” areas are less
than 60%. Study those areas first, using the content videos,
Kaplan NCLEX-RN Content Review Guide and The Channel.
As you are completing Question Trainers, aim for scores of 65% or higher. Your scores will get
higher as you test, review, and study. The Student Reflection tools you have completed on
Question Trainers 1-3 should have helped you identify your patterns of strengths and
weaknesses and why you are answering questions incorrectly. You do not have to complete a
tool for every test moving forward, but we highly recommend that you complete the Tool
several more times to ensure that you have learned from your mistakes and have not slipped
into old, bad habits.

PHASE 2: ATTEND YOUR KAPLAN NCLEX® REVIEW CLASS
Kaplan’s review course consists of six 3-hour sessions and one final, on-line, one-hour session
led by one of our expert nurse educators. Your review will concentrate on helping you to answer
passing-level NCLEX questions by utilizing your clinical judgment skills in order to ensure success
on Test Day. While the structure of the lectures is not content focused, you will receive high-yield
content tips while reviewing NCLEX-style questions in class. This class will teach you how to apply
the learned content to answer NCLEX-style questions.

You have access to recorded sessions of the Kaplan NCLEX Course. Please watch them in order.
Ensure that you take the RN Practice test on your own BEFORE completing Session 8. The RN
Practice Test is located in Session 7. For Session 8, you may join a live session or a recorded
session on The Channel.

Qbank. Take two 75-question Qbank tests each day until

you’ve exhausted the more than 2000 questions. Aim for
cumulative scores of 60% or better.
Make sure to complete and remediate all Qbank questions.
Note your areas of weakness in the client need categories.
You should be showing improvement in the low areas you
identified with the earlier Question Trainers.
We highly recommend you complete the Student Reflection
Tool for 2-4 of these tests. You should see improvement in
the areas of weaknesses you identified before. If not, be sure
to address the weaknesses again or any new weaknesses
identified.

Take NCLEX Sample Tests 1–4. Space these out in Phase

3, between other tests.

Be sure to complete and remediate all questions.

Question Trainer 7.
Set aside time to take the test in one sitting, and treat it as a
mock NCLEX. It consists of 265 questions (the maximum
number of questions allowed on the NCLEX) and can take
up to 6 hours to complete.
Remediate the entire test!

Readiness Test.
Take this test approximately 1–2 weeks prior to your NCLEX
Test Day. It is a 180-question NCLEX-style test. Take the test
in a quiet, controlled, distraction-free environment to
simulate conditions on Test Day.
Remediate the entire test!

Computer Adaptive Test.

Take your final test within the week of your test date. Treat it
as a mock NCLEX. Take the test in a quiet, controlled,
distraction-free environment to simulate conditions on Test
Day. Review the test continuing to use the QBank for any
areas of weaknesses.
Continue to aim for scores of 60% or higher on QBank, but remember that the goal is to increase
your understanding of how to answer questions. After taking each test, ask yourself the same
questions as before, as well as these:

1. Did I use the Decision Tree effectively?

2. Am I seeing improvement as I progress from test to test?
3. Am I thinking about how I am thinking?
4. Did I take a break at the best time for me?

IMPORTANT: Complete all questions available to you.
