TAB Reaction Prompts

Write a brief paragraph about your reactions to the TAB experience you went through in class.
Answer the following questions to the best of your ability...

My first reaction to the TAB experience was that I felt overwhelmed with the amount of
choices that I had to pick from while also feeling the sense of freedom with the art project. As a
student I could see them being overwhelmed with the number of options for the project but
being happy they get freedom within the category of project. As a teacher I can see how giving
students multiple options and ways of doing one project can be easy and fun for their
imaginations to take them wherever. Through the class I did find the videos to be very helpful in
direction and with giving ideas for that specific project. They were helpful in guiding me to want
to try them all.

1.) How did the TAB experience effect you as a learner?

As a learner I did feel overwhelmed with the amount of freedom in which category to pick.
After picking that category I felt like I had the creative freedom to make whatever I wanted. I
think that helped me be more creative than I would have been if I needed to do a project that
everyone else was doing.

2.) What are the strong points to a TAB based classroom/lesson set up? What are the down
sides?

Strong points of the TAB based classroom/lesson is that it really gives students creative
freedom in their learning. It is very student-centered and led. Students may be more engaged
and more encouraged to take over their learning and do well/better.
The downside of the TAB classroom/lesson could be that there are too many options for
one specific lesson. Students can easily miss the point of the lesson if there is too much
freedom and not enough structure. Students can also feel overwhelmed with too many options
in their learning and sometimes need a smaller list of options with a stronger guide.

3.) What are some educational theories of practices that are used/highlighted in the TAB
model?

An educational theory would be that students will be more engaged during lessons because
they got to choose a portion of it. Students will then also be more encouraged to do more in
their learning with multiple opportunities to do different things.
