The DigiTITANS programs provides computer education, it gives to the learner’s experiences that
they can be proud of later in life. It equips them with the essential competencies, both in Microsoft
Course -based and open-source applications, that will make them more effective students in high school.
Description They gain practical know-how on productivity tools and discover pertinent facts and concepts that
give them a better grasp of ICT in general. It’s the DigiTITANS way of preparing and
empowering Filipino grade school students for success in a wholly ICT – dominated future.

Topic 1: Protecting Your Computer
Learning Outcomes:
 Explain the importance of computer lab rules
 List the ways to protect the computer
 Use computer resources properly

Lab Rules
 Computers are fragile and expensive and have to be used properly.
 Rules are made to keep them from getting damaged.

Computer Laboratory
- Is a classroom.
- Rules must be followed in the classroom
- The rules for a compute laboratory are many. They are for students and
others who use computers in class.

Below are some rules for a computer lab.

STUDENTS SHOULD ALWAYS:


1. Log in before using the computer.
2. Log out after using the computer.
3. Ask for help when needed.
4. Use only classroom hardware, software, and peripherals.
5. Report problems with the computers.
6. Do only the tasks assigned.

STUDENTS SHOUL NOT:


1. Bring food and drinks in the computer lab.
2. Take hardware or peripherals with them.
3. Copy software without permission.
4. Replace computer parts without permission.
5. Download from the internet without permission.
6. Change the look of the computer without permission.
7. Change or delete programs files.
8. Use computer programs without permission.

PROCTECTION SAFEGUARDS
Computer lab rules protect computers from damage. But irresponsible users
and viruses can damage computers. Below are tips on how to guard your
computer from harm:

 Use a password. It is a secret set of letters, numbers, or symbols that


lets you access your computer.
 Scan flash drives before using them.
 Do not delete programs files.
 Scan the computer for viruses. Viruses are programs that cause
problems to the computer.

Kinds of Application Software


A computer cannot be useful without application software. It would be
like a TV without programs or a camera without film. There are three kinds
of application software: productivity, business and specialty, and
instructional.

GUI
- An application program must be easy to use. This is why a program
has a graphical user interface or GUI ( pronounced as “gooey”.)
- A GYU often has a “window.” This is the working space of an
application program.
A GUI window is like a blackboard in a classroom. By looking
carefully at the blackboard, you can see where the chalk and the eraser are
placed. It’s the same for a GUI. By simply looking at it, you see what tools to
use and where to find them.
